Music
In Term 3, students in the VCE Music 1-4 cohort were busy preparing their solo and group items for their SACS, End of Year Concert and upcoming VCE Music Exams. On Thursday 10th September in the PAC and at RUOK Day Lunchtime gig, students performed pieces from their music programs, gaining further opportunity to tweak and present musical works for assessment. Students in this cohort develop valuable social connections, presentational skills and stagecraft and collect valuable constructive feedback from peers and teachers which allows for continual improvement along the continuum.
End of Year Music Showcase
On Thursday 15th October, the Music Department presented the End of Year Music Showcase at the Memo in Healesville. We welcomed family and friends of all Music students involved in the program. It was a wonderful celebration of the dedication, talent and creativity of our Music students. Our students have been rehearsing their pieces since the Mid-Year Showcase. We were pleased to see that every student took the stage with confidence and pride, demonstrating growth in their skills. The evening opened with our Senior Guitar Ensemble “The Pentatonics” conducted by Mr. Grenell, with a lively rendition of the classic 80’s song ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’ and pop song ‘Happy’. What followed was a chronological demonstration of what time, practice and application can achieve through the year levels. Music is a very collaborative creative process and many of our groups and staff participated with each others' items. The night concluded with our mass item; everyone, including the audience, enthusiastically singing along to a medley of ABBA songs.
And it doesn’t stop there! Our sights are now set on our next and final gig, ‘Munch with the Musos’ which is a wonderful collaboration with our student-run café ‘Valleydale Café.’ This will be held on Thursday 3rd December from 1:10 pm – 1:40 pm, at our "Marvel" undercover area.
We are so proud of the progress our students have made this year with their music education and we are excited to see what the new year brings!
