Veggie Garden
Since returning from the term break, our veggie garden has been thriving! Beans are sprouting, lettuce is flourishing and our garden is becoming a wonderful source of fresh produce. With so much growing, students recognised the need for better access to make harvesting easier. They took the initiative to lift the netting and build gates, creating a more accessible and functional space for everyone to enjoy. At HOL, we value sustainability and giving materials a second life. This project was the perfect opportunity to put that philosophy into action! Using recycled pallet timber, an old bicycle wheel and the back of a chair, students creatively built a climbing structure to support our growing beans and tomatoes. We look forward to harvesting our homegrown produce and incorporating it into the delicious meals we prepare and enjoy together. It’s wonderful to see students’ creativity, teamwork and commitment to sustainability flourishing alongside our garden!

Potato Pots
Our students have continued to get creative in the garden, finding new ways to recycle and repurpose materials. This time, they’ve been transforming an old plastic water drum into a growing space for potatoes! This project is still a work in progress, and we’re excited to see it take shape over the coming weeks. We look forward to sharing an update as the potato-growing project develops and watching our students’ ideas continue to grow.

Bringing Christmas Cheer to Lilydale Main Street!
We’re excited to be collaborating once again with the Lilydale Township Action Group and Bunnings this year to create Christmas trees that will line Lilydale Main Street! It’s wonderful to come together with our local community to spread some Christmas cheer and bring a little extra festive magic to Lilydale.
