Wildlife Incursion
Our Environmental Science students enjoyed an amazing wildlife incursion on Tuesday 13th October, hosted by two fantastic zookeepers from Gumbuya World! Students had the opportunity to meet a range of Australian native animals, including a squirrel glider, leaf-tailed gecko, sand goanna, python, owl and turtle. The experience brought classroom learning to life as students explored the physical and behavioural adaptations that help these animals survive in their environments. They also learnt more about the threats facing Australian wildlife, including habitat loss and environmental change, and the importance of conservation in protecting our unique biodiversity. This was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that encouraged curiosity, connection and a deeper understanding and appreciation of Earth's biodiversity.
Science Museum Excursion
Our Year 10 Environmental Science students visited Melbourne Museum on Wednesday 7th October to explore the galleries and take part in the Biodiversity and Evolution program. Students connected their classroom learning about Earth's spheres and major biomes to real-world examples, exploring how Earth's physical systems influence the distribution of life. They also investigated Australia's unique biodiversity and the evolutionary processes that have shaped the incredible variety of life found across our continent.
