Fabulous Foundation
Term 1 Week 6 - 6th March 2026
It has been wonderful to see the continued growth and progress across the cohort. Students are settling well into classroom routines and demonstrating increasing confidence and independence in their learning. Each day is full and purposeful, with students actively engaging in literacy, numeracy and inquiry activities.
I am incredibly proud of the effort being shown by all students. They are consistently trying their best, demonstrating resilience when tasks are challenging, and showing a strong work ethic. It is pleasing to see their confidence building as they take on new learning experiences.
Student Free Day - Tomorrow, Friday 6th March - A reminder that tomorrow is a Student Free Day. Students are not required to attend school on this day.
Labour Day Public Holiday - Monday 9th March - Due to the Public Holiday we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Tuesday 10th March.
Students are back full-time from next week, Wednesday, 11th. Students are required to attend school. We look forward to being in a good full-week routine.
Prep Wednesdays Off
We thankyou to all parents for supporting their children with the Wednesdays off and bringing them in for 1:1 assessments. We have gotten through these assessments and been able to look at the data closely to determine where support and extension is required.
What we are learning!
Maths:
We have finalised our unit of maths on patterns, and the results from their assessment have been pleasing. Preps have now begun looking at time duration and what happens on days of the week v’s weekends as well as ordering of events, e.g. what comes first, next and last in a day. We have had fun drawing what we all do during the week and on weekends onto our whiteboards.
Literacy:
Our literacy sessions run from 9.10 am right through until 11.30 am. We appreciate families ensuring students arrive promptly each morning so that all literacy learning can begin on time. A settled and punctual start to the day allows students to fully participate in our literacy block and maximises valuable teaching and learning time.
We continue to focus on all single letter sounds. It is wonderful to hear their confidence grow as they learn these letter sounds. In phonics, we have been concentrating on.
Preps have been working hard at sounding out and blending CVC words and writing them out on their whiteboards. We have sent home sound cards to all students, and a video is up on Compass to show you how we teach these sounds to the Preps. Colourful Semantics is still popular in class. We have learnt Who, What, Doing and this week we introduced Describe (adjectives). Preps enjoyed making sentences from silly pictures using Who, What, Doing and Describe. This supports their sentence structures and builds their comprehension, confidence and understanding of texts.
