Senior & Intermediate Cricket

On Friday 20th February BHS entered 3 teams (Senior Boys, Senior Girls & Intermediate Boys) into the SSV Eureka Senior & Intermediate Cricket competition at Vic Park, Ballarat.

It was an absolute scorcher with temperatures reaching 30°, some would say perfect cricket conditions! The Senior Boys found themselves in a 6 team Pool Play competition. They drew Mount Rowan Secondary College (5 wickets - 70 runs v 6-64) and Phoenix Secondary College (2-67 v 5-52). Two wins secured the team a spot in the Grand Final against Mount Clear College. Mount Clear batted first and scored 97 runs with BHS chasing. Unfortunately, the team came up just short making 86 runs to go down by 9 runs and finish in second place for the competition.

The Intermediate Boys found themselves in a 4-team Round Robin competition. They played matches against Daylesford Secondary College (7-72 v 7-21), Mount Clear College (3-72 v 5-69) and Phoenix Secondary College (2-95 v 3-71). With 3 wins secured from three matches the BHS Intermediate Boys team was declared the SSV Eureka Champions for 2026.

For the 3rd consecutive year, the Senior Girls team had no opponent and got a walk over into the SSV Greater Western competition on Wednesday 4th March at Vic Park. The Intermediate Boys have a significant wait until Wednesday 14th October to play the SSV Greater Western Region competition.

BAS Championships

On Friday 20th February BHS had 3 students enter the BAS Tennis Singles Championships at the Ballarat Regional Tennis Centre (Hollioake Park). This competition brings the best junior tennis players together for a Round Robin singles championship to declare the best BAS tennis players of 2026.

Pictured above are Charlie Maltzahn (Year 9) and Billy Madden (Year 9) who were entered into the Junior Boys (Year 7-9) section and Liam Humphries (Year 10) in the Senior Boys (Year 10-12). It was a great experience for all students getting the opportunity to play some amazing players and watching all the students working together collaboratively.

Once all the matches were completed our students unfortunately didn’t get enough wins on the board to move further into the finals. Shout out to Charlie Maltzahn who won 3 of his 5 matches to just miss out on qualifying.

All students noted it was an eye-opening experience to see the quality of students from other schools and indicated they would like to return next year.
