Prep News

We are so proud of how the students have transitioned back to school this term. They have returned very settled and ready to jump back into learning.
📚 Literacy
In literacy we have continued to write simple sentences based on some of the pictures inside the Pip and Tim decodable book series. We explored two new books ‘One Little Duck’ and Frogs are our friends. We focused on:
- Events in a story (characters, setting, problem, solution)
- Writing a sentence with nouns (things that you can see and touch), an adjective (a word that describes the noun and verbs (action words).
🔤 Phonics
We have learnt two new Stage 3 sounds: /qu/ and /z/ and our first Stage 4 sound: /j/. We met Milo Monkey's friends: Queenie Quail, Zoe Zebra and Jack Jellyfish.
It has been great to see that so much reading has been happening at home. Please continue to read regularly with your child and record this in your child’s take home journal.
🔢 Mathematics
In Maths, we are learning to use addition and subtraction. We have done a range of activities with concrete materials such as: dice, counters and whiteboards with markers to help support the students in grasping this key mathematical concept.
✝️ Religion
This term, we have started Religion focusing on a celebration we take part in. Some students have chosen celebrations such as: birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Mother’s/ Father’s Day, Holi and Diwali. We have broken the celebration into all the key parts that make a celebration and the students have made a nice celebration booklet.
🌍 Inquiry
This term we will be exploring the unit of Science. To begin, we have learnt about the five senses: touch, taste, smell, see and hear. We have started to characterize some of these senses using adjectives: soft, hard, rough, bumpy etc.
👥 Buddies
In buddies this term we will be completing a project where the buddies will create a story book together. This week, the students began planning the characters, setting and events that will occur in their story. We look forward to seeing what they come up with!
