Year 9 and 10 Traditional Art
Year 9 and 10 Traditional Art students have been exploring Egyptian art. After phonetically translating their names into hieroglyphs and applying ancient principles of design, students have been creating their own clay cartouches, oval-shaped frames traditionally used by the ancient Egyptians to enclose the names of royalty and other important figures.
Through this hands-on activity, students are developing a range of skills and knowledge, including carving, sunken and raised relief, the different stages of clay, artistic composition and symbolism.
They are also exploring traditional slab and coil-building techniques to construct their clay cartouches.
These will be amongst the many great artworks featured in our upcoming Art and Technology Expo: ‘The Year of Wonders’.
