Term 3 Primary Art
During Term 3 the students have created some wonderful artwork and have learnt lots of new skills and gained new knowledge. Their artwork will be displayed in our School Art Exhibition in Week 2 Term 4. I warmly invite you to come along and celebrate our students’ wonderful artwork.
Foundation
Foundation students have created birds in different forms. They have made clay birds which are going to go into the Art Garden as a permanent display, foil coloured birds with feathers and are presently learning how to sew to create an embroidered bird.
Years 1 and 2
These students have learnt about Form by creating monsters from clay, where they had to give their monsters certain features like eyes, a tongue, teeth etc. They painted their monsters and added patterns with paint markers. The students have been learning about Albert Namatjira, who was our first famous indigenous artist. They have looked at Namatjira’s landscape paintings and have created their own landscape drawings by dividing them into a background, middleground and foreground, and coloured them in.
Years 3 and 4
These students have also learnt about Albert Namatjira and the process of watercolour painting. They chose a Namatjira watercolour painting to reproduce by dividing it into background, middleground and foreground, sketched it and painted it with watercolour paint. Students are enhancing their clay and design skills by making clay cactuses in pots and are enjoying being creative with this.
Year 5
Students have also been learning about Albert Namatjira and learning how to sketch and paint watercolour landscapes. Their skills are developing nicely in this area.
The Year 5’s are undertaking a project called ‘Picasso Cows’ which is an initiative of the dairy industry. This involves decorating a large fibreglass cow. Students are learning about Pablo Picasso and Cubism as part of this initiative and will be creating designs in pairs with a Health and Nutrition theme. The goal is to put the Picasso Cow out for pasture in our Art Garden surrounding the Arts building for all to admire. For more information on this click on the link below.
Year 6
This term Year 6 students completed their biomorphic artworks. This involved a combination of watercolour paint and fineliners to create an abstract design based on free-flowing, curved, and organic shapes that evoke living organisms like plants, cells, and the human body. The results were amazing.
Students also looked at Indigenous artist Badger Bates and his prints and designs. They looked at the meaning behind the symbolism in his work and the process he used. The students used the printing technique of collagraphy and designed their own prints using foam. These were made of either an Australian animal or flower.
Year 6 students looked at the Archibald Prize Exhibition, its history and the process involved. They analysed their favourite portraits and got to see these in person when they visited the Archibald Prize Exhibition in Shepparton. This is one of the most prestigious exhibitions in Australia and they were very fortunate to be able to see it. The students were amazed with the skill level of the artists.
The students are undertaking a self portrait painting to keep as a momento of their Primary Schooling. They will learn new skills and new process to create these. Watch this space!
