🎶 A Symphony of Stories – Scavenger Hunt Success! 🎶

This year’s Book Week Scavenger Hunt – A Symphony of Stories was a tremendous success, bringing together students from across St Mary’s for two lunchtimes of music, riddles, problem-solving and plenty of racing around the school!

One of the most pleasing aspects of the event was how readily students formed teams across different age groups. Teams that included representatives from each school level earned an additional 20 bonus points, encouraging our younger and older students to work together. It was wonderful to see students helping one another, sharing ideas and demonstrating the sense of community and inclusion that is such an important part of St Mary’s.

The hunt proved challenging enough that no team managed to complete it in a single lunchtime, with our determined scavenger hunters returning for a second day to finish the quest.

And now for our winners! 🏆

🥇 First Place – Team Hello – 40 points Hamish Melville (Year 11), Alexander Morton  (Year 10), Imogen Richardson (Year 6), Ada Jaudzemis, Lucy Tennant and Anthea Symons (Year 1) Congratulations to Team Hello, who take home the $20 canteen vouchers!

🥈 Second Place – The Top Dogs – 39 points Lila McKay (Year 11), Ruth Reilly (Year 10) , Ruby Cox (Year 6), Charlie McKay and Layla Pearce (Year 1).

🥉 Third Place – Magic Zahira – 39 points Keisha Jennings (Year 12), Zahira Wilson (Year 10), Billy D’Elia (Year 5), Heidi Mathieson and Summer McCarty (Year 2).

The Top Dogs and Magic Zahira finished level on 39 points, so their final placing came down to a raffle draw, with The Top Dogs drawn first to claim second place.

A special mention also goes to our other terrific teams;

Hotdogs — Sophie Butterworth (Year 11), Olivia Hamilton (Year 10), Amelia Hamilton (Year 4), Quinn Cleeland and Reya Nair (Foundation).

Magic Unicorns — Keisha Jennings (Year 12), Zahira Wilson and Jack D’Elia (Year 10), Billy D’Elia (Year 5), Heidi Mathieson (Year 1).

Thank you everyone for throwing yourselves into the challenge and helping make the event such fun. A special thanks to the Year 10-12 students who went around the trail with multiple Primary teams to ensure that everyone who wanted to participate got a shot at the prizes. 

A huge thank you must go to Nicole Cheriton and  our Music Faculty for their wonderful contribution in putting together the QR codes and orchestral pieces that brought our Symphony of Stories theme to life. Special thanks also to Violet Byers, who manned the Circulation Desk and made sure our intrepid scavenger hunters knew where they were going, and to all the staff who guided, encouraged and occasionally pointed teams in the right direction.

More than anything, the scavenger hunt was a wonderful celebration of unity and community spirit at St Mary’s. Watching students of different ages working together, listening to one another and sharing the excitement of solving each challenge was perhaps the best prize of all.
