Year 9 Fashion (Semester One)

Year 9 Fashion (Semester One) students: Designing for a Real-World Costume Brief for Spooky Kids Ensemble - Heathers, School Production.
Year 9 Fashion (Semester One) students experienced the complete design process by creating costumes for a real-world design brief as part of the School Production, Heathers.
Working collaboratively, students designed and constructed costumes for the Spooky Kids Ensemble, responding to design constraints provided by the Production Team.
Students researched visual inspiration before experimenting with the Japanese art of Shibori tie-dye, trialling a range of fabrics to determine which achieved the most effective dye saturation. They then measured their assigned performer, adapted commercial sewing patterns, and constructed the costume garments using sewing machines. To complete the final look, shimmering white capes were constructed and added to enhance the ghostly appearance of the characters on stage.
For many students, this was their first experience using commercial patterns and sewing machines, making the quality of their finished costumes an outstanding achievement.
Year 9 Fashion and Ms. Conti extend their sincere thanks to Ms. Brown, Mr. Bartalotta, the Production staff team, and all the students involved for providing such an invaluable opportunity to participate in an authentic costume design project.
Ms. Natalie Conti
