Japanese Model UN

On July 29, our Year 12 Japanese class took part in the yearly Japanese Model UN. This is an event run entirely in Japanese by the United Nations Association of Australia in collaboration with the Victorian government. Students are given a country and need to research then argue their country's position entirely in Japanese for the day in the spirit of the actual United Nations.

This year, Viewbank College represented India and America. They engaged in heated debates over the benefits and challenges of space exploration and space development for a sustainable future, and our students consistently raised their voices and shared views from their selected country to contribute to robust Japanese conversations.

While other schools in attendance included an array of private and selective schools from across Victoria, our Viewbank College students should be congratulated for their joint efforts both in preparation of the day and for their contributions on the day. It was a testament to the academic rigour our students that they were able to be active participants throughout the day while engaging with other students.

The VBC Languages teacher team is extremely proud of our ongoing commitment to provide students with challenging and exciting opportunities to use languages in meaningful ways throughout our students' educational journey and look forward to seeing how Languages students in the College will continue to grow and improve as global citizens.
