Sun Project CBCA Shadow Judging 2026
This Stays Between Us is a survival-horror novel, reminiscent of 1990s slasher films, which reimagines this genre through a feminist and modern lens. This book has an accomplished narrative suitable for 14+ readers, which enthralled the Shadow Judging reviewing panel. “It’s the best CBCA book I have ever read” stated one student. To add validation to this glowing review, it has won the 2026 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards in the category - John Marsden Prize for Writing for Young Adults.
The next two books reviewed just this week are Unhallowed Halls by Lili Wilkinson and We Saw what You Started by Carla Salmon.
Following this, the shadow judges will vote for their favourite Older Readers book for 2026, with the official winner’s announcement to follow in late August.
