A warm welcome back to all our Middle school students and families. We hope the holiday break was a good time for all to reset and prepare for what continues to be a busy term.

2027 subject planning
Students are in the process of undergoing subject selections across both Year 9 and Year 10. We understand that this can cause some additional stress amongst our students (and their families) and request that contact is made with us in Middle School should you (or your child) require some further guidance or support.
Counselling was a big buzz during week 2 over the two days for our respective year levels with many students and families taking the opportunity to discuss future pathways and seek guidance from our well informed and dedicated staff. We thank our staff who were involved in the Course Counselling days for the respective year levels and for giving up additional time to guide and mentor our families. We remind everyone that subject selections close on Friday 31st July at 2.30pm. Late submissions will not be considered.
Careers & Pathways
In the last two week of term 2, the Year 9 and 10 students were involved in a number of career specific events and incursions including Year 9 VET taster Day, Deakin University excursion, MGSC Subject Information Night and VM Market and finally MGSC Careers Expo.
A huge thank you to our Careers and Pathways Coordinator, Karen Garton and VET Coordinator, Fiona Faulkes for arranging all these opportunities for our students. Below is a reflection on these experiences from our Year 10 students:
Year 10 Deakin University student reflection - Piper Spriggs
On the 23rd of June year 10 and staff and students took a trip to the Deakin University Burwood campus to explore future career options, and learn about university life, this opportunity helped guide us to understand how VCE works and how it can connect you with so many job options related to people's passions and goals.
Year 10 Careers Expo student reflection - Ella Keele
During our exciting final week of Term 2, Year 10 students were able to attend MGSC’s 2026 Careers Expo. The expo was held in the JLC, and featured a large variety of tertiary education options, including universities, TAFE providers, and more. It was lovely to see everyone really taking advantage of this resource by asking questions, collecting piles of pamphlets and papers, and exploring every single possibility. For those who may have found it a little overwhelming, we were also given a worksheet to fill out in order to guide us through each stall and ensure we got as much information out of it as possible. Following the expo, I was a part of many fascinating conversations about uni options, possible career paths, and VCE subjects with my peers. We are very grateful to all of the providers that attended our expo, as they were immensely helpful in beginning to explore options for our future.
Community Service reminder
As communicated previously, Community Service is a valued part of our program and is not optional. The purpose of Community service is a consequence designed to encourage students to reflect on their choices and take responsibility in a constructive and supportive environment.
Students who receive three uniform infringements will be scheduled to attend a Community Service session on Thursday afternoon from 3:15pm – 3:45pm in Room 6. This will be clearly indicated on your child’s Compass schedule. Students who arrive late to school on three occasions without explanation will be required to complete a Late to School Community Service session on the nearest Thursday lunchtime with a Middle School staff member at 1.30pm - 2.00pm.
All students expected to attend a Community Service for lateness or uniform are expected to regularly check their Compass schedule for the allocated session time.
If there is a valid reason your child is unable to attend a scheduled Community Service session, it is essential that communication is made with the relevant Assistant Director or myself prior to the session. The Community Service session will then be rearranged to a mutually agreeable time. Please be aware that continued requests to rearrange sessions will not be accommodated.
We appreciate your ongoing support in reinforcing these expectations at home. Working together ensures that all students are well-prepared, connected, and able to make the most of their school experience.
