PERFORMING ARTS

You may have seen links to Bigger Better Brains advertised on various social media platforms. The amazing Dr Anita Collins help advocate the benefits of Music Education and is a wonderful speaker as you will hear in her TedTalk.

 

For those not going to Japan, you may be interested in joining the Australian Youth Band, who have an Open Day on Saturday 23 March at the Parkhill Primary School in Ashwood. More information can be found at ayb.org.au

PAST PERFORMANCES

Big Band Sunsets

Congratulations to the Senior Stage Band for their fantastic performance at the Big Band Sunsets Festival in Mordialloc on Saturday 24 February. Thank you to Dmitry Serebrianik for his ongoing development of this group and organisation of this performance. Thank you also to Karen Nansen and Frank Russo for attending the event with the Senior Stage Band.

World Day of Prayer

Congratulations and thank you to the Senior Singers who took part in the World Day of Prayer on Friday 1 March at the Leighmoor Uniting Church. Feedback from the participants was that the singers were a highlight of the day. Thank you to Blanka West for her continual work with these singers.

UPCOMING PERFORMANCES

Japan Farewell Concert

Come and join us in farewelling all the fantastic students heading off to Japan at the end of the term. The concert will be on Tuesday 12 March, 5:30pm in the McKinnon Road Hall.

 

House Music Festival

All are welcome 7pm, Wednesday 20 March in the School Hall.

 

We are looking forward to seeing and hearing the amazing work that all the students are completing under the direction of their House Captains. All information for rehearsals will be on the daily newsfeed, but captains are also communicating via classroom.

 

Japan Tour

Heading out very early on Saturday 23 March, the Japan tour will begin. Thanks to the amazing Dmitry Serebrianik for his organisation of the tour, also to Tracy Videon, Clare Bugeja, and Blanka West for their work in preparing the students for the tour performance groups. I am looking forward to sharing this experience with all of the musicians.

Core ensembles days and times

 

McKinnon Road campus (Auditorium) 

  • Choir (vocal students Years 10-12) - Tuesday lunchtime
  • Wind Symphony - Tuesday after school (3:30 - 5pm) 
  • Orchestra - Thursday after school (3:30 - 5pm)

East campus (VG.1) 

  • East Campus Choir (vocal students Years 8 - 9) Monday lunchtime
  • Keenan Strings - Monday after school (3:30 - 4.30pm)
  • Ovenden Band - Wednesday after school (3:30 - 4.30pm)

All other ensembles are by invitation and/or audition only, and dependent on ongoing commitment to the core ensemble.

 

Music Club - East Campus

Every Friday in VG.1 Musicians of every level are welcome to come and work on some performance skills, song writing, or even just jamming with friends.
