Year 7 and 8

As we move through Term 2 at Sunbury College, it has been fantastic to see our Year 7 and 8 students continuing to settle into the school year with positivity, enthusiasm, and a strong commitment to learning. The term has already been filled with many important moments and opportunities for students to demonstrate our college values of Respect, Responsibility, Endeavour, and Resilience both inside and outside the classroom. We encourage all students to continue using these values in the classroom, in the yard and within the wider community.
We are also very excited to welcome back Mel Casha from maternity leave. Mel has returned in a 0.6 capacity this term, with Egmond Molenaar continuing to support the role alongside her. We know students and families will be excited to reconnect with Mel and continue the strong support provided within the Junior School team.
One of the highlights of the term so far was our ANZAC Day Service. Our students represented the College with pride and respect as we paused to acknowledge and honour the sacrifices made by servicemen and women. We were incredibly proud of the maturity and respectful behaviour shown throughout the service, with many students demonstrating the importance of community, reflection and gratitude.
This term, a key focus across the Junior School has been organisation and punctuality. Building positive habits around arriving to class on time, being prepared with learning materials and staying organised are essential skills that support success at school and beyond. We encourage all students to continue developing these routines each day. It has been pleasing to see so many students taking pride in their learning and making positive improvements in these areas.
A major focus this term has also been our SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behaviour Support) program. It has been fantastic to see students earning Green Posts and being recognised for their positive behaviour, effort and contribution to the school community. Students have also enjoyed receiving $5 canteen vouchers as part of our SWPBS rewards system. Across Years 7 and 8, we continue to celebrate students who consistently demonstrate excellent work habits, positive attitudes and strong engagement in their learning.
Attendance continues to be a key priority across the College. We want every student attending school at least 90% of the time, as regular attendance has a significant impact on academic success, social connection and overall wellbeing. Every day at school matters. Attending school regularly helps students stay connected to their peers, build routines, develop responsibility and maximise learning opportunities. If your child is absent, families may be contacted and asked to submit attendance notes through Compass so we can continue working together to best support each student. We thank families for their ongoing support in ensuring students arrive at school regularly and on time.
There is also plenty of excitement building for next week’s Athletics Carnival! We encourage all students to get involved, show house pride and support one another throughout the day. Events like these are a fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves, build connections and celebrate school spirit.
As the weather becomes colder, we also ask students and families to continue supporting the school uniform policy. Wearing the correct uniform helps promote pride, belonging and a positive school culture. Demonstrating responsibility through wearing the correct uniform and bringing the appropriate equipment to school each day is another important way students can show pride in themselves and the college. If families are experiencing difficulties accessing uniform items, we encourage students to speak with their Pastoral Care Teacher so the school can explore ways to support them.
Finally, we would like to thank all students and families for the positive start to Term 2. We are proud of the way our Year 7 and 8 students continue to grow, learn and contribute to the Sunbury College community. We look forward to an exciting and successful remainder of the term.
