Year 9 and 10

As we move further into the term, there has been plenty happening across Years 9 and 10. Our Year 9 students recently enjoyed an exciting Adventure Day, where they demonstrated teamwork, resilience, and positivity while stepping outside their comfort zones. It was fantastic to see students supporting one another, building new connections and embracing every challenge with enthusiasm.

For our Year 10 students, preparations are well underway for upcoming Work Experience placements. This is an exciting opportunity for students to explore possible career pathways, develop workplace skills and gain valuable insight into the world of work. We encourage all students to continue organising placements and completing the necessary paperwork to ensure they are ready for this important experience.

We look forward to another busy and successful few weeks ahead.

Year 9

Term 2 has been a productive one for our Year 9 students, who have already begun taking important steps on their journey toward senior school and beyond. Activities this term have focused on helping students explore their strengths, interests, and future pathways.

We began the term with an incredible opportunity for our Year 9s to strengthen their connection as a cohort on the Year 9 Adventure Day at the Campaspe Camp in Tylden. The students challenged themselves by participating in the Giant Swing, encouraged each other to achieve their target in archery and collaborated in teams to implement tactics in a group Laser Tag battle!

Students recently completed their Morrisby Career profiling, which offers valuable insights into their individual strengths and possible future directions. Well done to all students for taking this process seriously and engaging with it thoughtfully. These insights will be followed up in the coming weeks with individual course counselling sessions, designed to support students in planning their senior school subject selections. It was also great to accompany a group of Year 9 students on a recent tour of Harvester Technical College. They represented the school beautifully and enjoyed learning more about some of the opportunities that could be available to them in the coming years.

Looking ahead, we’re excited about the upcoming Naarm City Experience excursions in Term 3, which promise to be a highlight of the year. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop independence, teamwork skills, and make real-world connections with their learning. If you haven’t yet consented and paid on Compass, there’s still time to do so. Students will also bring home a Code of Conduct for students and parents to acknowledge expected behaviours on this learning experience to ensure all students’ safety. Please take the time to read through and discuss this with your child. Please ensure this is signed and returned to school.

Uniform standards have been strong overall, and we thank families for their continued support. As the weather cools, please remember that undershirt sleeves must be fully covered by a school jumper or jacket, and hoodies are not permitted.

Finally, a reminder to students that the upstairs A Block toilets are reserved for Year 7 and senior students only. Year 9s are asked to continue using the other available facilities throughout the school.

Year 10

It has been another busy term for Year 10 students with all Science classes attending the Melbourne Museum Road to Zero excursion, linking their in class learning on Physics to the real work. Our Outdoor Education students attended their 3 day camp at Wilson's Promontory where they completed: an 8km hike around Mt Oberon, surfed at Sandy Point and met the local wombats. Students should be commended on their resilience and positive attitude throughout the camp, all representing themselves and the school with pride. Thank you to Mr Oussoren for his organisation of the camp.

The latter part of Term 2 is an especially busy time for our Year 10 students. Exams are quickly approaching, with the Year 10 exam period beginning on June 1st. For many students, this will be their first experience with formal exams and the procedures followed at Sunbury College. Our expectations and processes are aligned with the school’s Year 11 and 12 VCE model.

While we recognise that exams can be a challenging and stressful time for students, they also provide valuable opportunities for both students and teachers. Exams allow teachers to gather important information about student learning, helping to guide future teaching and support, while also giving students meaningful feedback on their progress and areas for improvement.

Following the exam period, Year 10 students will participate in their compulsory two-week work experience program. Since the beginning of the year, students have been actively organising their placements, and there is a great sense of excitement about the opportunities ahead. We are looking forward to hearing about the experiences students gain in the workplace and to staff conducting workplace visits throughout the program.
