A message from our Principal
Dear College community,
Over the past fortnight, Sunbury College has recognised several important occasions that reflect our school values, particularly our commitment to respect.
We recently celebrated Education Support Personnel Day on 16 May, acknowledging the outstanding contribution our Education Support staff make to our school community every day. Whether supporting students in classrooms, assisting with wellbeing, maintaining our facilities, or working behind the scenes in administration, our ES staff play a vital role in helping every student succeed. Their care, professionalism and dedication demonstrate the respect and support that underpin our college culture, and we sincerely thank them for the difference they make each day.
We also recognised IDAHOBIT Day — the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia. Recognising this important day on 17 May reinforces our commitment to ensuring Sunbury College is a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all students, staff and families. Through awareness activities and conversations, students were encouraged to reflect on the importance of acceptance, inclusion and treating others with dignity. Respect means valuing diversity and ensuring every person feels safe to be themselves within our community.
Our major focus over the next week is on National Reconciliation Week, an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, while considering how we can contribute to reconciliation in meaningful ways. At Sunbury College, we are committed to fostering understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. Throughout the week, students will engage in activities that encourage learning, reflection and meaningful discussion about truth, respect and inclusion.
These events remind us that respect is not simply a school value written on a wall — it is demonstrated through our actions, our words, and the way we support and include others every day.
Thank you to our staff and students who continue to strengthen the positive and inclusive culture of Sunbury College.
Best wishes
Craig O’Bree
Principal
