Principal Team's Message

Our Assistant Principals reflect on the start of Term Two

Welcome back to Term 2

We hope that you all enjoyed the beautiful weather over the holidays, and that those who celebrate Easter and Orthodox Easter enjoyed this time with family and friends. Term 2 has started with year level assemblies being held, excursions organised for students across our school community, and our annual Sunbury College Open Night.

ANZAC Ceremony

On Friday 24th April, our student leaders led our annual ceremony to commemorate the anniversary of the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps troops at Gallipoli, Turkey. Poems were read and students spoke to reflect on the contributions made by past and present service personnel, acknowledging those from Sunbury who gave their lives so that we may live ours.

A big thank you to Ms Sarah McRae for assisting our student leaders in the preparation and facilitation of the day.

Open Night

Earlier this term, we held our annual Sunbury College Open Night event. This is a great opportunity to welcome the community to our school and showcase the wonderful learning opportunities that our students have at Sunbury College. The event received fantastic feedback from prospective families, and our staff did an amazing job highlighting what their respective Key Learning Areas offer students. The night was supported by our student leadership team and student volunteers who helped facilitate guided tours, and assist at each learning station. A huge thank you to our staff and students who supported the smooth running of the night.

School Wide Positive Behaviours

We continue to celebrate students’ demonstration of our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Endeavour. This term we have continued to celebrate students who are wearing the full school uniform with pride with a brunchtime hot chocolate served by the Principal and Assistant Principals. There have been some cold days recently, so the hot chocolates have been very well received - over 300 were served on 7 May.

The Principal team have also been visiting classes to recognise and celebrate those students who have arrived on time to class ready to learn. Having all the necessary learning resources and being engaged from the start of the lesson where goals are set and prior knowledge referred to is a vital step in positive learning experiences in the classroom.

Sunbury College Traffic Management Plan

We would like to remind families of our traffic management plan in place to ensure the safety of all students. Parents and carers are not permitted to enter the College car park for student drop-off or pick-up before and after school. We appreciate your cooperation in following these guidelines, as they help minimise congestion and create a safer environment for everyone in our community.

We also ask that all students make use of the supervised and designated pedestrian crossings when arriving at or leaving the college. This is essential in preventing unsafe situations, such as students attempting to “dash for it” across the road, which significantly increases the risk of accidents. Your support in reinforcing safe road habits with your child is greatly valued.

Families are encouraged to regularly check the Compass calendar for updates regarding upcoming extracurricular activities. This includes important information about interschool sport trials, training sessions, and other events. Staying informed through Compass ensures students are well-prepared and able to participate fully in college opportunities.

Finally, we ask parents and carers to log any known health appointments in Compass ahead of time. This information will appear on your child’s schedule and act as a reminder for them to report to the front office for collection. Keeping this information up to date assists the college in maintaining accurate attendance records and supports smooth transitions throughout the school day.

Year 10 and 11 Exams

Our Year 10 and 11 students will be completing exams over the coming weeks. This is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding of key concepts and skills learnt throughout the first semester. We encourage all students to develop a study timetable and manage their time effectively to prepare for these assessments.

We remind students that they must adhere to the rules and expectations during exams and we will clearly address this in year level assemblies. Full academic school uniform must be worn at all times. Please note that students will not be permitted to sit exams if they are not following this process. Please reach out to the relevant sub school if you require additional support with uniform prior to the exam period.

Year level coordinators or subject teachers will be more than happy to assist you with any questions regarding exams. We are very proud of the delivery of our exams from Years 10 to 12 and we thank all students and parents/carers in advance for supporting our school in the smooth and efficient running of exams.

Warm regards,
