Foundation, Grade 1 and 2 - Learning, Exploring and Creating!

What a wonderful couple of weeks our Foundation, Grade 1 and 2 students have enjoyed! We have been busy building, creating, exploring and discovering through two exciting learning experiences.

Brickworks

Our first exciting experience was an incursion with Mad About Science called Brickworks! Students put on their thinking caps and became creative builders, tackling a range of construction challenges and bringing their imaginative ideas to life.

Working with a small group, students explored different community places and spaces, and the people who help make our communities special through construction activities and dress-ups. They designed and built their own creations, followed instructions and explored different ways to solve problems. There were plenty of opportunities to share ideas, work together and create some wonderful designs!

It was lovely to see students encouraging one another, thinking creatively and proudly sharing their creations.

Exploring Our Local Community

Our second adventure took us on a local community walk to the Boroondara Shops. This was a wonderful opportunity for students to step outside the classroom and explore the places and spaces that are part of our local community.

As we walked, students became community detectives, looking carefully at the different features of the shops and surrounding spaces and thinking about what these places are used for. When back in the classroom, students shared their observations and ideas and began to recognise how different places, services and features serve different purposes in our community.

A very big thank you to our fantastic Grade 6 helpers, who joined us on the walk and supported our younger students along the way.

Both experiences connected beautifully with our integrated learning topics and provided exciting immersion opportunities to spark curiosity and build new understandings. Through hands-on activities and real-world exploration, students have been developing their creativity, collaboration and understanding of the communities around them.
