From the Year 6 Classroom

Hello once again,

The end of term is quickly drawing to a close, with lots going on the Yr 6 space.

Literacy

In Literacy, students have immersed themselves in the novel study ‘Can you see me?’ by Libby Scott and Rebecca Wescott, which explores the life of a 11-year-old girl with autism who is navigating the landscape of starting high school. The text has prompted some rich discussion about the text and our own lives.

Maths

In Maths, we’ve just completed the unit on ‘Decimals’, where students embedded their knowledge and understanding of multiplying and dividing whole numbers and fractions, using the ‘Powers of Ten’. We will begin a unit on ‘Measurement’, where they will focus on converting and finding equivalent measurements for length, mass and capacity.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, we are in the midst of our unit, on the ‘Systems of Government’ in Australia. We’re exploring how our government works, the roles of different branches, and the importance of democratic values.

We’d like to wish the very best of luck to the students heading to the Waverley Netball Centre, on Wednesday 17th September to compete in the State Netball Finals – we are so proud of your achievements already!

We celebrated a fabulous ‘Book Week Parade’ last Friday. It was great to see the Yr 6 students embrace their final opportunity to dress as their favourite character. Many thanks to the parents who helped the students make this day such a success. The Year six students thoroughly enjoyed working with their Prep Buddies to complete the ‘We live in a Bus!’ activity together.

Don’t forget – Family Breakfast & R U OK Day? on Thursday 11th September.

Thank you to the families who have kindly donated a ‘Gourmet’ treat for our raffle, if you haven’t already could you please bring one in for your child’s class.

Thank you for your ongoing support – we look forward to another great fortnight ahead!
