From the Year Prep Classroom

A HUGE Thank You for Book Week! What an incredible week we had celebrating Book Week! A big shout out to all our wonderful parents for your support with our annual Book Week Parade. It was so heart-warming to see our students dressed up as their favourite book characters, from Paddington Bear, Edwina the Emu, Harry Potter, and Bluey, to princesses, mermaids, cowboys and cowgirls, and even a few Taylor Swift look-alikes! What a fabulous showcase of creativity and a real celebration of our love for books.

Parent-Teacher Interviews Over the past fortnight, we’ve loved catching up with many of you during Parent-Teacher Interviews. It was such a pleasure to share your child’s progress, especially in their literacy journey through the Initial Lit program. We're seeing fantastic growth in their ability to learn tricky words, recognise vowels and digraphs, and apply this knowledge in their reading and writing. We also enjoyed sharing their development in maths and social-emotional learning. If you were unable to attend, please don’t hesitate to reach out, we’d be happy to organise a time to meet with you.

Maths Focus: Sharing Equally Over the next two weeks, our maths focus is all about sharing equally, also known as division! We're learning how to split and divide objects or groups so that everyone gets the same amount. This is something you can easily explore at home! For example:

· Setting the table: “How many forks do we need so everyone has one?”

· Sharing snacks: “Can we divide these grapes, so we all get the same number?”

· Toy time: “How can we share these cars, so everyone gets a fair amount?”

Real-life learning moments like these really help reinforce these concepts!

R U OK? Day & Family Day Breakfast – Thursday 11th September @7am onwards It’s a chance to come together, enjoy breakfast, and support each other as a school community. Kids are welcome to come dressed in a touch of yellow or something that makes them feel good! Just a little reminder we'll also be holding a raffle and would love your help! We’re putting together a Garden and Outdoor Entertainment themed basket. If you haven’t already, please consider donating a new item, BBQ gear, gardening tools, picnic supplies, or anything fun for the outdoors! Donations can be placed in our learning space. Thank you so much in advance for your support.

Athletics Carnival – Friday 12th September Get ready for a day of fun and fitness! Our prep students have been practising hard with Mr O’Dwyer for our Athletics Carnival on Friday, 12th September, held at school. Parents are more than welcome to come along and cheer on our little athletes!

Happy Father’s Day! Lastly, we wish a very Happy Father’s Day to all our incredible dads, grandads, pops, and uncles this Sunday. We hope you enjoy a special day with your little ones, filled with love, laughter, and wonderful memories. To help celebrate, your child is welcome to purchase a gift from our Father’s Day Stall on Thursday, 4th September. Please ensure your child brings their money in a clearly labelled plastic pocket or envelope with their name on it, as they will be attending the stall with the specialist teachers to choose their gift.

As always, thank you for your continued support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need any assistance.
