MUSIC SHOWCASE:  An Evening of Celebration! 

On Wednesday 15th October, Lilydale Heights College presented the End-of-Year Music Showcase concert. It was an evening of celebration, sharing music and demonstrating the group's amazing improvement and level of skill to family and friends. 

It was also an evening to celebrate our Year 12 students, who have dedicated countless hours to the Music Department and to officially farewell them. We were honoured to present Year 12 student, Darcy F., with the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Music Department’ Award, which is in recognition of his dedication to the Music Department at the College over the past six years. We thank Darcy for his enormous contribution to the Music Department and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours. 

The evening showcased music from the College’s wide variety of music groups. Beating in first was the Senior Drum Line, followed by our Beginner Band and our two Year 7 Bands, which included our Year 7C Enrichment Band, who performed a sweet rendition of ‘Little Swallow’. Next, the Junior Guitar Ensemble rocked the stage with some familiar sounds from the Beatles, with Charlotte M. taking the stage to sing ‘Eleanor Rigby’.    The evening continued with popping performances from the Choral Group, VCE Group, Intermediate Band and some toe-tapping swinging from our Jazz Improvisation Band.   The audience was treated to some special performances from the Percussion Ensemble and Choral Group who performed ‘Mas Que Narda,' - arranged by our very own Leonard R. (Yr. 11), and Darcy F. (Yr. 12) - performing a heartfelt rendition of ‘Empty Chairs and Empty Tables’ from the popular Musical ‘Les Miserables.’    The night concluded with an all-in sing-along of a Beatles medley with special guests; the audience joining the Combined Band for a banging finale.
