Term 1, Week 10

Hello BPS Community,

How term 1 has flown in the old art room!

What an incredibly creative cohort we have this year from Foundation through to Year Six.

This year our Year Six Art Captains are Layla and Lauren

They are both fabulous creative artists and bring so much to share in our Art Program at BPS.

Both Layla and Lauren make a terrific contribution in the Art room and Art program, at Assembly and taking on responsibilities to help with the day-to-day smooth running of the Art program. They love to share their ideas and artwork and inspire others with their creativity. A fabulous start to the term Art Captains Layla and Lauren.

Smocks, Smocks, Smocks

Art is lots of fun, but it is MESSY! 😊😊😊

Art smocks are vital to keep our clothes and uniforms protected. While most water colour paints do not stain, some food dyes and acrylic paints do. The children in Grades 2 to 6 often use acrylic paints for the fabulous effects that they can create while using them in Art. However, it can be difficult to get the paints out of the lovely BPS sports tops, other uniforms, and clothing.

Please remember to supply your children with an Art smock, clearly named which will be placed in a class tub. Smocks are readily available in various chain stores. However, a long-sleeved shirt with rolled up sleeves does offer some protection, though is not as waterproof as purpose made smocks. The students do try to be careful, but Art is a messy business.

(If children have paint on their clothes, it is usually removable by rubbing with soap and soaking in cold water.)

Art Room Activities

This term we have been busy celebrating in Artwork a shared unit with Mandarin studies…. “The Year of the Horse.”

Students have worked with drawing, water colours, watercolour pencils, collage, and 3D Pop up Art to Welcome in 2026.

From Year 1 to six we our young graphic designers have created a beautiful selection of well finished designs.

Oscar the Artroom bear has been busy mixing his Primary and Secondary Colours

Underwater worlds.

Across all levels students have been busy exploring the underwater sea world, with silhouette artwork, wax resist dying and drawing, collaged and mixed media works.

Junior grades have had a big focus on the Art Elements of Line, Colour, and pattern in their work.

Year Six classes have learnt about Hokusai and “The Great Wave,’ focusing on the process of printmaking, cropped sections of art, variations of tone and colour and composition of elements to create balance.

Students have worked on partner drawing activities, individual works and artworks completed in a number of stages.

To end our term in Art we have finished with looking at the origin of decorating and dying coloured eggs across diverse cultures, this inspired beautiful design work, pop up cards, coloured and patterned egg, and cards and 100’s of extremely cute pop-up bunnies.

It has been a fabulous term of Art learning and creativity at BPS

Have a wonderful holiday BPS community.

Best wishes,
