Creator God, we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, as we walk together on your path of love, hope and faith.

Thank you for the gifts of our school,

our environment, our families and friends.

May our school be a place of learning, care, welcome and celebration.

Mary our Mother, pray for us.

St Mary of the Cross, pray for us.

 Amen

Religious Education – Building a Foundation of Faith

This week’s Gospel reminds us of the powerful image of Peter as the rock upon which Jesus would build His Church. Jesus recognised Peter’s faith and entrusted him with the responsibility of carrying His message forward. In the same way, we are reminded of the important role we hold in providing a strong and faithful foundation for our children.

As parents, teachers, parishioners and members of our Catholic community, we are the rocks upon which our children begin to build their understanding of faith. Through our words, our actions, our prayer and the way we care for one another, we help children come to know Jesus and recognise His presence in their own lives.

The prayer following the Gospel asks God to give us the wisdom to “be strong in faith, unlocking doors to your kingdom through our actions.” This is a beautiful reminder that faith is not simply something we teach, it is something we live and model. Every act of kindness, every moment of forgiveness, every prayer shared and every opportunity to serve another lays another stone in the foundation we build for our children.

Our hope is that this foundation gives our students the confidence to learn, question, wonder and grow in faith. Just as Peter was called to be a foundation for the early Church, we too are called to create a strong foundation from which our children can grow—knowing they are loved by God, connected to their faith community and called to share Christ's love with others.

May we continue to walk beside our children, opening doors to faith and giving them a foundation strong enough to support them wherever their journey may lead.
