Year 2

Reports will be made available on Friday 19th of June for you to read. We are very proud of all the children in Year 2 and the growth they have made in Semester 1. We hope you enjoy reading your child's report and join us in celebrating all that they have achieved so far.

We would appreciate your support in ensuring toys, squishy toys and similar items stay at home. Children have potential of losing these at school, or these items brought in can be a temptation to others. We thank you in advance for supporting us with this.

Religion:

Children continue to learn about Grief and Loss. We have explored the notion of Grief as sadness we feel because we have loved. Children explored what grief may look like, feel like and sound like. Children explored that grief happens when we lose someone or something important. Some examples of grief are when: a pet dies, a grandparent dies, a friend moves away, parents separate or a special toy is lost. While children deepen their understanding of grief, emotional safety has been maintained and developmental clarity.

Numeracy:

Children have been working to develop their mathematical fluency by completing a range of addition problems in a set time. Children are working weekly to improve their times and accuracy.

Children have been developing their understanding of measuring the Mass of various objects by choosing a unit of measurement to determine the mass of a variety of classroom objects. From this, students wrote statements to show comparison of two objects by using statements such as more mass than, less mass than and the same mass as

Literacy:

In comprehension, children are learning to use the skill of asking questions to assist them with understanding a text.  In grammar, children are reviewing punctuation, nouns and adjectives.  Children have enjoyed exploring the story book ‘The Turtle’s song,’ and have been learning and writing about the life cycle of a turtle.

Inquiry Learning:

Children continue to familiarise themselves with the new Laptops. They have been exploring ‘Microsoft Word’ and they were able to insert a picture from the web and write 4 sentences about the picture. Each sentence had to be written in a different font, size or colour. Children then named their document and saved it.

Year 1

Year 1 students have been very busy with their learning this last few weeks!

In Literacy, we have been exploring the important role of the Bossy E and how it changes the sound of vowels in words. Students have enjoyed practising this new spelling pattern through a variety of engaging reading and writing activities.

We have also been learning and practising new tricky words, including work, baby, and children. The students have been working hard to recognise, read, and use these words confidently in their everyday reading and writing.

In Mathematics, we have been learning about addition and subtraction. Students have been developing their understanding of number concepts and practising a range of strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems with increasing confidence.

In Digital Technologies, students have been learning important computer skills. They have practised logging in to their laptops independently, using Microsoft Teams to access learning activities, and developing their keyboard skills through Typing.com. These experiences are helping students build confidence and become responsible users of technology.

We are proud of the enthusiasm and effort that our Y 1 learners continue to show as they develop their skills across all areas of learning.
