Over the past week, our Year 9 students have had several opportunities to strengthen connections across our community while celebrating inclusion, kindness, and belonging.

Although we celebrated IDAHOBIT Day a little later than planned due to Focus Week, our Leadership elective students embraced the opportunity to focus on the importance of inclusivity within our Campus community. Year 9 students were invited to write messages of kindness and support for peers who may feel marginalised for a variety of reasons. The thoughtful messages displayed genuine empathy and reminded us all of the importance of creating a community where every person feels seen, valued, and respected.

Our Leadership students also spent time with the newest members of our Campus community - the Prep students - helping to organise and run games together. The wrangling skills of our Year 9 students were certainly tested while attempting to coordinate enthusiastic groups of five-year-olds through structured activities! However, it was incredibly heartening to watch our students crouch down to speak gently with the younger children, patiently encouraging participation and helping them feel included and supported. These moments reflected maturity, compassion, and leadership in action.

Meanwhile, our Year 9 Writer’s Workshop students had another wonderful opportunity to strengthen our Canowindra connections during Writer’s Workshop Focus Week. Students exchanged carefully written and illustrated books with their Grade 1 buddies in what was truly a “bucket-filling” afternoon. The delight on the faces of the younger students as they listened to stories written especially for them was priceless, while the pride and joy shown by our Year 9 students as they read their bespoke stories aloud was equally special. The strong sense of community and connection across year levels was tangible, and it was a privilege to witness such meaningful interactions between students.
