Junior Rangers Club

There has been a wonderful turn out for the Junior Rangers Club held each Tuesday!

Junior school students were so eager to learn about the Canowindra vegetable garden situated behind the Science Room. With new gloves, and garden utensils, students prepared the garden beds by turning over the soil, discovering beetles and bugs, and pulling out weeds. There was much excitement when a worm was discovered!!

Brimbank Council supplied the College with an array of seedlings including beans, chives, and spinach.

Students learnt to carefully divide each punnet into sections whilst other groups were dividing garden beds into equal rows reading for planting.

A watering group has been established and students are keen to watch the progress of their planting.

Last week, students learnt about the importance of pollinators in the garden. Every student in the lunchtime club planted a small groundcover flower next to the vegetable seedling to encourage bees and other pollinators.

Waa's Helper Lunchtime Club

Middle school students have been busy preparing garden beds for planting seedlings provided by Brimbank Council. Students have also set up a compost bin with fruit and vegetable peelings and coffee beans from the canteen. Students have enjoyed preparing the area by clearing out last years dead plants, fixing the hosing system, sorting the gloves, buckets and new watering cans.

Over the holiday break, students made posters to decorate the area with the winning entries being displayed.
