Year 5 Transition to Middle School

As the first term progressed, the Year 5 students settled into the transition to Middle School with positivity and enthusiasm. This year’s cohort brought together students from a range of backgrounds, including 45 students new to the College alongside those moving across from our Junior School campus. It has been wonderful to see how quickly the students adapted to their new surroundings, demonstrating resilience, confidence, and a willingness to embrace new experiences.

A significant part of the transition involved developing greater independence and responsibility. Students learned to manage their schedules, move confidently between classes, and stay organised with classwork and homework expectations. An important support in this process has been Compass, our online learning platform, which students have used to access timetables, communicate with teachers, and keep track of their learning. The cohort quickly became familiar with the system and used it effectively throughout the term.

Beyond the classroom, the students have formed new friendships and developed a strong sense of belonging within the Year 5 community. Through classroom collaboration, sporting activities and co-curricular opportunities, students have connected with one another, built positive relationships, and supported each other as they adjusted to Middle School life.

The Year 5 cohort should be commended for the way they have approached the many opportunities and challenges of their first term in Middle School. We look forward to seeing their confidence, independence, and enthusiasm continue to grow throughout the remainder of the year.
