STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Week 5
2A: Yuvaan
2B: Ava
2C: Shreya

Over the past few weeks, our Grade 2 students have been exploring the genre of Instructional Writing. This writing style teaches students how to clearly explain a process so that others can follow their steps with success.

Students have been learning to use precise verbs and clear, step-by-step instructions to make their writing easy for others to understand. We have focused on including action words such as cut, fold, draw, glue, place, and colour to help make instructions specific and detailed.

To deepen their understanding, students engaged in a range of fun, hands-on activities before writing. These experiences helped them learn how important it is to give clear instructions that others can follow. Some of our activities included:

  • Making paper planes and writing instructions for how to build and fly them
  • Following Art Hub drawing videos, then writing steps to teach others how to create the same picture
  • Making animal crafts, then recording the steps in order so classmates could recreate their design

Through these tasks, students discovered that instructional writing is all around us—in recipes, games, craft activities, and even in everyday routines!

We have been proud of the creativity, effort, and collaboration demonstrated throughout this unit, and we encourage families to support this learning at home.

We look forward to seeing our young writers continue to grow in confidence as they explain ideas clearly and thoughtfully to others.
