 Collaborative Project

Prehistoric Volcanic World 

Building on the incredible engagement, patience and paper mâché skills shown during our hot air balloon projects the students have launched into their next big collaborative experience! During our Children’s Meeting students decided on a group project called Prehistoric Volcanic World. They have planned out and designed a landscape complete with a towering paper mâché volcano, rock valleys, winding rivers and prehistoric dinosaurs. Watch it take shape over the coming weeks on our back table.

Cooking Club

Last week’s Cooking Club activity was a bit impromptu! We had quite a few left-over ripe avocados, onions and a tomato in the fridge so a few of the students began researching what we could cook with it. We decided on Guacamole! This experience was a fun, “taste and test” experiment which in the end actually tasted quite delicious! We even had corn chips to go with it! 

OSHC Mascot Drawing Competition

You may have noticed our beloved OSHC mascot around the room which was created by one of our talented Year 5 students many years ago

Our Prep Team Leader Lizzie has decided it’s time for Oshctopus to have a friend and has created an exciting OSHC Mascot Drawing Competition! We are asking our creative students to design a new companion for Oshctopus. 

How to Enter:

Name your design: Every entry needs a character name, for example, ‘Beau the Beaver’.

Submit your entry: Place your completed drawing in the black box outside the office by September 3.

We’ve already received so many fantastic entries! Judging will take place in coming week and the winning design will be specially crafted into a plush toy to live permanently in the OSHC room.    

Important Reminder: Child Care Subsidy (CCS) Attendance Rules

We’d like to share an important reminder regarding Services Australia (Centrelink) regulations about child attendance and subsidy eligibility:

The 14-Week Rule (Service Enrolment):

If a child does not physically attend our service at least once in a 14-week period, Services Australia automatically cancels their enrolment with us.

Please note: Under Family Assistance Law, CCS cannot be paid for any absent days following your child’s last physical attendance. Any absence fees recorded after that date will be reassessed by Services Australia, and families will be liable for the full un-subsidised fee.

 The 26-Week Rule (Overall CCS Eligibility):

If a child goes 26 consecutive weeks without attending any approved child care service, Services Australia will cancel their overall CCS eligibility. If this happens, you will need to lodge a completely new CCS claim via your myGov account before subsidies can restart.

These rules apply automatically through Centrelink, even if you hold active bookings or continue paying fees.
