ELC 3

It has been an eventful few weeks in ELC 3, filled with opportunities for connection, creativity and celebration. Our Occupation Dress-Up Day was a highlight, with children dressing as an occupation they might like to pursue in the future. It was wonderful to hear them confidently share with their friends what they would like to be when they grow up. We look forward to seeing our next generation of community workers, leaders and helpers grow and make their mark on the world.

We were delighted to welcome our amazing dads, father figures and grandpas to our Father’s Day Breakfast. The morning provided a wonderful opportunity for our children and their special guests to spend quality time together, participating in a range of activities before enjoying breakfast. The morning concluded with a heartfelt performance by the children, followed by the presentation of special gifts they had thoughtfully prepared for their loved ones.

Planting trees

Earlier this term, ELC 4 set out on an excursion across the road to the North Campus for a tree-planting activity. The children showed great joy as they planted the trees donated by Frankston City Council. We planted:

  • Allocasuarina verticillata - Coastal Drooping Sheoaks
  • Allocasuarina littoralis - Black Sheoaks
  • Eucalyptus pauciflora - Cabbage Gums (Snow Gum)

We want to extend a huge thank you to Mrs Rachael Morgan, Mr Ken Berry, the Year 10 VM students, and Mr Justin Mason, who assisted us during the excursion. Your presence was invaluable in helping make the excursion happen and in supporting the children during such a fun and active day. It was a joy to see the children relishing play and purposeful work in the natural world.

Visits to the Prep classroom

On ELC 4’s visit to the Prep classrooms, Mrs Martin read "The Grouchy Ladybug” by Eric Carle. Mrs Martin discussed emotions with the group and strategies for what to do if we are feeling grouchy that will help us to feel calm again. The children came up with all sorts of great suggestions such as going for a bike ride, taking a deep breath, punching a pillow, or hugging someone.

The children practised making grouchy faces, and then happy faces. After the discussion, the children were able to explore the classroom and play with toys such as cars, animals, dolls, books, drawing and a letter game. These visits to the Prep classroom support continuity of learning by allowing the children to become familiar with the Prep teachers and learning support staff, the physical environment, and classroom rules. The children are learning that Prep is a fun and safe space where they learn, explore and play with toys and books. Ongoing discussions about how the children are feeling about the next step in their learning journey support them to build confidence, share big feelings and to have a smooth and positive transition to Prep.

Road safety incursion

Stop, Look, Listen, and Think. Presenter Tracey brought a wide range of hands-on and creative materials to teach the children about safety around roads. The children engaged in fun, interactive safety songs and dances, group discussions, and a puppet show before putting their critical thinking skills to the test with 'thumbs up/thumbs down' evaluations and safe/unsafe role-play scenarios.
