Year 8 News

Vermont Secondary College

It looks like it has been a good start to semester two in the Year 8 SM team. We hope everyone is enjoying their new subjects. It is good having these semester options to provide a meaningful indication of what subject options there are for Year 9 and onwards. Also, a benefit of yearlong subjects is you can build on the feedback and success in final semester one assessments from your teachers. Make sure you ask questions if ever unsure.

As Ms Bird mentioned in the previous newsletter, there is a lot to be excited for about the Year 8 City camp across weeks 1, 2 and 4 of next term. There will be a briefing in L05 at lunchtime on the first day of Term 3 where we will go through everything you need to know about the upcoming camp.

As we reach the halfway point of the year, we think organisation is an important skill – we should be seeing this through a lock on your locker and bringing the required materials to class. We also strongly encourage that you make use of the feedback from teachers in your Cycle 2 reports and set some subject specific goals for Semester Two. These reports take a considerable amount of time to do, and include an indication of how students are going, which is specific to the student (considering classroom, assessment and more). We will have another series of parent teacher conferences in Term 3, where questions can be asked regarding Cycle 2 (released this week) and Cycle 3 (released end of next term).

As always, please come see us in N02 if there’s ever anything we can help with!

Have a nice break, looking forward to seeing you back at school recharged and ready to roll for Term 3!
