Student reports for semester one have been published on compass and are able to be viewed by parents. I encourage all parents to view these in preparation for the approaching Learning Conferences/Parent Teacher interviews on the 13th of August. Conferences start at 12 pm and conclude at 7 pm, we look forward to seeing you on this day. Appointments as always will need to be made via compass. Due to industrial actions several reports will be void of feedback comments, though will include scores for assessment tasks that have been completed throughout semester one.
Student Learning Conferences are excellent opportunities to meet with your child’s teachers as we plan together to maximize the best possible learning outcomes for your children. This is especially important for our senior students, who need your support and encouragement during these final semesters of their schooling. The partnership between school and home is a significant one in supporting and providing the optimal learning conditions for all students. Your input as carers and parents is valuable in informing teachers about your children and helps support that two-way channel of communication which serves to ensure positive approaches to learning and successful results. Moving towards the Learning Conferences opens an opportunity for you as parents and guardians to check in with your children to see how they are tracking and ensure they are keeping up to date with subject requirements. As always please don’t hesitate to contact relevant subject teachers or school teams if you have any queries or concerns. It is through our strong partnership that we can ensure the best possible outcomes for our students.
Our VCE Information Evening occurred on the evening of Tuesday the 28th of July. Many families attended and were informed of the two VCE pathways, VCE and VCE Vocational Major we offer here at the college, and some of the requirements of each. These evenings support decisions which will guide the final years of schooling and future pathways into university, TAFE or employment. The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority mandate the rules and requirements of both VCE pathways and an understanding of these helps to support your child in their decision making.
On Friday 24th July we held our third Curriculum Day for the year. This day provided valuable time for staff to ensure content delivery in the Key Learning areas continues to meet Victorian Curriculum 2.0 compliance guidelines and provided an opportunity to map the entire scope of curriculum from years 7 to 10.
Over the past couple of weeks our year 11 and year 12 English teachers have been involved in a further full day of professional learning with educational consultant and past VCE Chief English assessor Ross Huggard. Ross has worked with our English staff over the past several years, supporting our English program. This year he has started to collaborate with our year 10 English team to build coherence with the senior VCE program. His many years of experience in assessing year 12 English examination papers and breadth of content knowledge of the VCE English Study Design has been most valuable in establishing the necessary rigour in course delivery to support our LSC students in achieving their best possible results. We are pleased to have Ross continuing to work with us throughout the year. The year 12 students will be involved in presentation of their year 12 orals this coming Tuesday. We wish them all the best of luck.
The College has once again purchased subscriptions for students completing units 3 and 4 to access Edrolo. This is an online platform which supports senior students completing VCE with the provision of access to quizzes, exam questions, additional revision materials and video lessons provided by a range of educators on all key knowledge points as written in the current VCE subject study designs. These are incredibly useful as additions to the lessons provided here by our wonderful year 12 teachers, and past students who have excelled in their final years, have all spoken of the value that Edrolo provided in helping them acquire excellent VCE results. Login information was provided to students on Compass and via Teams. Please check in with your child to ensure they are using this exceptional resource and are not missing out on the extra resources and videos provided.
Ms. Jade Charalambous, LSC Careers Counsellor, has begun meeting with our year 12 students, spending time holding individual appointments to support students in their planning for career and post-secondary school options. For some students, the decisions surrounding future pathways can be difficult to make, and having conversations with your child at home can assist. These conversations had already commenced at the end of year 10, where subject counselling and course selections were undertaken to ensure University or TAFE pathways are supported by the choice of subject’s students have selected. Please feel free to contact her should you wish to make an appointment with your child.
