Co-Curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

Week ,1 Term 1 - 2026
A big welcome to all our new families and welcome back to all those returning families. I hope that the Christmas and New Year period was a relaxing time spent with family and friends.
As usual, we hit the ground running with summer sport trials occurring on Monday 2 February and Tuesday 3 February. Please see details below for Junior School Trials.
Monday 2 February
Touch Football and Basketball during school time 11:25 AM – 2:25 PM
Cricket and Tennis 3:10 PM to 5:00 PM on College grounds
Tuesday 3 February
Softball trials, 3:10 - 4:45 PM on College grounds
Saturday 7 February
Basketball grading (those selected on Monday 2 February) 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM Auburn Basketball Centre Wyatt Park, Church St, Lidcombe.
Please be aware that once selected into a sport, boys are not eligible to trial for another sport in the season. Boys playing a sport outside the College, that we offer, must play that sport for the College.
At the conclusion of the trial’s boys will need to start purchasing uniforms and equipment for their sports. The College Uniform shop has all the information on Co-Curricular uniforms, and I have provided a basic guide below.
Cricket: White SPC polo, long white pants, black bucket hat or cap
Basketball: White basketball socks, basketball shorts. The playing singlet is provided by the College on a hire basis. Parents/carers will see the small hire fee in their school fees.
Tennis: Black SPC sport shorts, White SPC polo, white SPC socks, black bucket hat or cap.
Touch Football: Black SPC sport shorts, white SPC socks. The playing singlet is provided by the College on a hire basis for A and B sides. Parents/carers will see the small hire fee in their school fees. Boys in additional teams will play in the training shirt.
Softball: Black SPC sport shorts, white SPC polo, long white socks, black SPC bucket hat or cap. In addition, softballers will need some safety equipment of their own. This includes shin pads, a mouth guard and a groin protector. These items are not available at the Uniform Shop.
Once selected into a team all boys will need to have purchased their uniforms prior to the first game on Saturday 14 February.
Summer sport trials can be a challenging time for our boys, especially for those who are disappointed not to gain selection. We understand how difficult this can be and acknowledge the effort and commitment shown by all students who trial. Unfortunately, due to the structure of summer sport, we are unable to provide a place for every student. If we were able to do so, many of our teams would have limited or no opposition, as the schools we compete against do not have the same student numbers as St Patrick’s College.
For boys who miss out on selection into a summer team and still desire to be involved in Saturday Co-Curricular activities, there is an opportunity to join the Summer Sport Skills Program. This program runs on a Saturday morning during the summer season on the Scientia Basketball courts. Sessions run for 1.5hrs and are based on developing movement and sport skills using non-traditional sports to engage the boys. Registration sheets will be available outside my office for boys to sign up to the program once summer sport trials have concluded. Usually, we have enough interested students to run two sessions each Saturday morning, the first starting at 7:30 AM and the second at 9:00 AM. Sessions are split into year groups. Boys signing up are expected to attend all of their allocated sessions.
The summer season commences with Round 1 on Saturday 14 February. Training will start on the Monday of the week leading into the first game. As a general rule, all primary sport train on Monday afternoon from 3:10 PM to 4:45 PM and a second session on either Wednesday, Thursday or Friday concluding at 3:55 PM. Sessions are scheduled on coach and facility availability.
I look forward to an exciting year of sport ahead, filled with strong performances, exciting finishes and SPC coming out on top.
