Swan Young Change Makers Conference

Swan Young Change Makers Conference

I had the privilege of accompanying Liam Cruzana, Luella Stride  & Madi Makavilitogia to Curtin University to represent the College at the Young Change Makers Conference, hosted by Zaneta Mascarenhas MP, Federal Member for Swan. The conference was run by young people for young people.

Youth are becoming ever more engaged in the issues facing society media and our young people are in a greater position to create change as technology continues to connect us. In recognition of this, and as a way to harness the voices of local youth, the Conference aimed to provide the opportunity for young people to present their perspectives and opinion on the major issues that matter to them to state and federal government.

Participants engaged in policy discussions about a topic of their interest facilitated by young community leaders and changemakers. Topics of focus on the day included emerging technology, environment, politics, sport, equality, and social media.

We sincerely thank Ms Mascarenhas for giving our students a voice and the opportunity to engage with like-minded others.

Liam Cruzana reflects below on the day:

‘I enjoyed my experience in the Swan Young Changemakers Conference where we discussed many issues such as AI, Social Cohesion, and housing, and what the government could do to address these concerns through feedback. I also was able to network with other like-minded Year 11 students around our area, as well as the facilitators of the event. I would like to thank Zaneta Mascarenhas MP for giving us this opportunity to be able to voice our opinions in issues that concern us.’
