Our Foundation students have been learning about emotions and developing their ability to recognise, name and express different feelings. Through discussions, activities and role-play, students are learning that all emotions are okay and that we can use helpful strategies to manage strong feelings.

Learning About Emergency Situations – Year 1 & 2

Students in Year 1 & 2 have been learning about how to recognise and respond appropriately in an emergency situation. Through classroom discussions and activities, students have explored what an emergency is and the importance of staying calm, thinking clearly, and seeking help.

Students have been learning to:

  • Recognise what an emergency is and identify situations that may require immediate help.
  • Know how to respond to an emergency, including following instructions, moving to a safe place and seeking assistance from a trusted adult or emergency service when appropriate.
  • Manage their emotions during an emergency, using strategies such as taking slow breaths, staying calm and focusing on what they can do to keep themselves and others safe.

🚒 Emergency Services Community Event

On Wednesday 9 September, students will have the exciting opportunity to participate in an Emergency Services Event, where they will meet and engage with emergency service providers from our local community. Students will learn more about the important roles these services play in keeping our community safe and have the opportunity to ask questions and develop a greater understanding of how emergency services respond when help is needed.

These experiences help students develop confidence, awareness, and practical safety skills so they can respond appropriately and safely when faced with an unexpected situation.

Learning About Cyberbullying – Years 3–6

Students in Years 3–6 have been learning about cyberbullying and how our online actions can affect others. Through age-appropriate discussions and activities, students have explored what cyberbullying is and the impact it can have on a person’s feelings, wellbeing and sense of safety.

Students have been learning to:

  • Understand what cyberbullying is and recognise how it can affect others.
  • Recognise the difference between respectful online behaviour and cyberbullying, including the importance of communicating kindly and responsibly online.
  • Identify safe and appropriate ways to respond to cyberbullying, including not responding to harmful messages, saving evidence, blocking or reporting inappropriate behaviour, and seeking help from a trusted adult.

Our focus has been on helping students develop the confidence and skills to make safe, respectful and responsible choices online. We have also encouraged students to remember that if something online makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe, they should always speak to a trusted adult and ask for help.
