Junior Learning Community

Year 2

Religion:

The students continue to learn about "Let's care for Creation." Students have been engaging with scripture and exploring how it express wonder and awe for creation.

Numeracy:

In Numeracy, the students have started a new unit called 'Operations.' This week we have been reteaching and revising strategies that can be used to help solve addition and subtraction. The students will continue to use these strategies to solve word problems, which requires the students to use the BAR model.

Literacy:

In Literacy we have been reading the story of “The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs” by Jon Scieszka. The children enjoyed listening to this story, told through the perspective of the wolf.  When comprehending, children are learning to summarise and explain the main idea when reading a text. At home, please continue to encourage the children to spell their tricky words as the children will be tested on these in the coming weeks. Students will continue to practice writing a persuasive text.

Inquiry Learning – Media Arts:

In Media Arts, the students are drew their own interesting characters and settings to be used in a simple story. When designing a character, students considered a name for their character, how they feel and what they like.

Sport:

The children participated with enthusiasm and gave their personal best during our school sports on Friday. Congratulations to all students for their personal efforts and contributions to their team.

YEAR 1

Over the past few weeks, our Year One students have been working incredibly hard and have enjoyed lots of exciting new learning!

In Literacy, we have been learning the new letter patterns 'oi' and 'oy' that make the /oi/ sound. We have also been exploring adverbs and contractions, learning how they make our writing more interesting and help us become stronger readers and writers.

In Mathematics, we have been continuing to strengthen our understanding of grouping and sharing. Students have used a range of hands-on materials to explore these concepts and have been developing different strategies to solve mathematical problems with confidence.

In Media Arts, students have been exploring how images can communicate ideas and tell stories. We have learnt that looking closely or from far away changes what we notice, that pictures can be framed in different ways to help tell a story, and that interesting characters can make stories more engaging. Students have enjoyed experimenting with these techniques as they create and share their own visual stories.

In Religion, we have continued exploring the story of Creation, reflecting on the wonderful world God has made. We have also been thinking about the unique gifts and talents God has given each of us and discussing how we can use these gifts to make a positive difference in our school, our families, and our community.

Finally, we congratulate all of our Year One students on their fantastic efforts at our Athletics Carnival last Friday. It was wonderful to see everyone trying their best, showing great sportsmanship, and encouraging one another throughout the day. Well done, Year One!
