What a wonderful Book Week!

Another wonderful Book Week has finished for the year and they keep getting better every year. Some of the highlights have been:

Scholastics Book Fair

Thank you to all the families that purchased items from our Scholastics Book Fair. We raised a lot of money, that will fund the majority of our new library books for the whole of 2027!

If you missed out on purchasing from the book fair, don't fret! We will still have issues 7 and 8 of Book Club in term 4 for all your book purchases. Purchasing from Book Club also raises money and funds for the school to purchase new library books and books that are used as classroom mentor texts.

Junior School Book Week Performance

Our Foundation–Year 2 students recently enjoyed a very special performance from Perform Education as part of our celebrations for Children’s Book Week 2026.

Something Special is an interactive musical adventure inspired by this year’s theme, “Symphony of Stories”, and brings a selection of the 2026 CBCA Shortlisted books to life through music, storytelling and plenty of audience participation.

The performance explored wonderful themes including creativity, perseverance and kindness, while encouraging students to think about the importance of not judging a book by its cover. Our students were captivated by the characters and stories and had the opportunity to sing, move, participate and celebrate the joy of reading together.

It was a wonderful way to encourage our youngest readers to discover new books and authors, while reminding us all that every story has something special to offer. We hope the experience inspires our students to continue exploring the wonderful world of books and sharing their favourite stories with others.

Author visits

Jake Minton - 26th August

Our Year 3 and 4 students were thrilled to welcome author and illustrator Jake Minton for an engaging behind-the-scenes look at the creation of a graphic novel.

Students explored the journey of bringing the graphic novel 'Inked' to life, discovering how authors and illustrators collaborate to develop characters, stories and visual worlds. Jake took students through the different stages of creating a graphic novel, from initial character sketches and design, to storyboarding, cell layouts, inking and colouring.

Students also learned how graphic novels use visual storytelling to communicate meaning, with colour, symbols, character design and layout all playing an important role in helping to tell the story. They explored how graphic novels can use techniques similar to film to control pacing, build atmosphere and engage the reader.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to see how creativity, writing and art come together to create a compelling story. We hope Jake’s visit has inspired our students to look at graphic novels in a new way and perhaps even create some stories of their own!

Adrian Beck - 2nd September

POSTPONED TO TERM 4

The Foundation - Year 2 students will be listening and learning from author and illustrator Adrian Beck.

They will hear Adrian's 'top secret formula' for writing spectacular stories and how drawing simple shapes can turn into amazing characters.

Amelia Mellor - 3rd September

The Year 5 and 6 students are eagerly waiting to hear from author Amelia Mellor on the 3rd September. They will be listening to Amelia explain how to solve the plot puzzle and end stories with a satisfying conclusion. 

Dress Up Day

Book Week dress up day is always a highlight! It is wonderful to see so many students wearing costumes of their favourite book characters. Thank you to all our parents and friends who came to watch the parade.
