What's On In 1/2

English

This term in English, students will continue to develop their reading skills, with a further focus on phonics, decoding, and reading fluency. They will explore a range of engaging persuasive texts to identify their purpose, structure, and key language features.

As part of our learning, students will build their knowledge and vocabulary through an exciting persuasive unit. They will use this knowledge to plan, draft, and publish their own persuasive texts, applying the features and language that they have explored throughout the term. Students will even use their writing skills to prepare a speech based on the topic, If I had a superpower! One student will be chosen to represent our level at the local Public Speaking competition.

Maths

This term in Mathematics, students will develop their understanding of fractions and they will explore the concepts of halves, quarters and eighths through folding paper and identifying fractions of collections.

Students will also explore money. They will use money to complete algebraic skip counting patterns and complete simple addition and subtraction sums. Students will then be able to use their knowledge of money to create and sell items in their very own class shops!

We also look forward to heading into the Questacon space. Students will work collaboratively with a partner each week to solve a variety of Mathematical problems based on the areas of number, measurement, space and algebra.

Integrated Studies

This term in Integrated Studies,  students will  explore how First Nations Australians connect to land, water and sky through stories, language and cultural practices. They investigate how stories preserve knowledge, nurture respect for Country, and express connections to place through art, dance and oral traditions. Students also discover how language carries cultural and environmental knowledge, and examine the importance of recognising Traditional Owners through ceremonies such as Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country. Through storytelling, discussion and creative activities, they develop respect for First Nations peoples and understand how cultural knowledge is shared across generations. We will also head on an excursion later in the year to engage in Indigenous Learnings at the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens.

Wellbeing

This term in Wellbeing, students will develop the knowledge and skills to build and maintain positive friendships. They will explore the qualities of a good friend, practise effective communication, and learn strategies for respecting other people’s personal space.

Students will also learn a range of relaxation techniques to help recognise and manage their emotions, build resilience, and support their overall wellbeing. This will help to manage any anxiety about changes that can be common as the year draws to a close, and the new year is being planned for!
