From the Year 2 Classroom

Can you believe we are already halfway through Term 1??!! We are well and truly deep into our learning and we are loving it. However, we are also excited that there is a long weekend coming up. For the next fortnight the learning is as detailed below. Having conversations with your children can spark their thinking and interests in what we are focussing on in each subject:
In Literacy we have begun looking at persuasive texts. Knowing the difference between fact and opinion and using emotive words to persuade our audiences. We are using these texts to begin writing our own persuasive texts about our favourite seasons and favourite pets. We have been learning about types of nouns in our writing and will begin looking at adjectives. The children have been focussing on making their handwriting legible and using the correct lines and formation. We are still working on using the correct spelling choices with all of our long vowel sounds.
A very big WELL DONE to the students that are retuning their reader's each Friday. We love seeing you read during the week and taking notes on what you love about your book. The more you read, the more you learn!
In Maths we have been looking at clock times- o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. The children have been doing a great job with this learning, as time can be a tricky concept. We will be focussing on clockwise, anti-clock wise and types of turns over the next week.
In Religion we are learning about Lent and Easter, looking at the Holy week and the acts that we can do throughout this time. This also ties into our Respectful Relationship where we are talking about emotions, how we make people feel and how we can resolve certain situations.
The photo below shows the Grade 2 students making particular facial expression to show emotions.
A reminder to book in for Parent Teacher Interviews for week 8. You can do this on PAM or contact your child's teacher for clarity.
Have a great long weekend!!!
From the Year 2 Team 🙂
