Understanding the NCCD
Each year, The Gap State High School joins all Australian schools in participating in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD).
The NCCD recognises the adjustments and support schools provide so that students with disability can access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers. This process supports our responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005.
What information is collected?
The school uses information already available through its usual teaching, consultation and support processes. For each eligible student, the NCCD records:
- their year level
- their broad category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- the level of adjustment provided: quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
Why is the NCCD important?
The information helps our school to:
- recognise the adjustments already being provided
- review and strengthen support for students with disability
- develop consistent and inclusive teaching practices
- improve access, participation and educational outcomes.
The NCCD also helps state and federal governments plan funding and support for students with disability across Australia.
What does this mean for my child?
The NCCD does not involve student testing or require students or parents to complete any additional activities. Information is provided to the Australian Government in a way that does not identify individual students. Student information remains confidential and is protected under Australian privacy laws.
