MAG Athletes Shine in Albury
The Albury athletics track was lit up by MAG athletes on 30 and 31 July. Forty-six Primary athletes competed on day one, with personal bests, lots of cheering and even records broken.
Congratulations to record breakers: Cleo Haw (Year 6) in the 12–13 girls 200m (29.63s) and the girls 10 and Under relay team — Mea Whitelegg (Year 4), Jewel Walker (Year 4), Amelia Goodsell (Year 3) and Maya Woolman (Year 4).
Forty-four Secondary athletes competed on day two, with three age group champions from MAG: Laura Stone (Year 8) (13 girls), Phoenix Wise (Year 9) (14 boys) and Remi Baulch (Year 11) (17+ girls). These athletes competed in seven or more events during the day — basically running from a field event to a track event from 9am to 3pm.
It was very pleasing to see athletes filling spots for their friends on the day to ensure MAG had as much representation as possible in each event.
Overall, MAG finished 2nd at RAS Primary Athletics and 4th in the BISSA Secondary Athletics. There have been 21 primary students and 24 secondary students who have qualified for the CIS State Championships in Sydney in September. Good luck with your training in the lead-up!
Finn Excels at the School Sports Australia Games
Last month, Finn Murphy (Year 9) participated in the School Sports Australia Games in Brisbane, an incredible experience filled with just as much fun off the field as on it.
Over the carnival, his team played five games, winning three and losing two, finishing in fifth place —a remarkable achievement for a group of boys who hadn’t had the chance to train together beforehand.
Finn shone in his role as a forward, kicking goals and taking some solid marks throughout the competition. An amazing effort, Finn!
Netball Victoria Schools Championships
Our Senior Girls Netball Team participated in the Netball Victoria Schools Championships on Monday, 4 August, at the State Netball Centre, Parkville. After a very early start, the girls were keen to take the court, even though their opponents were all about six feet tall! All were enthusiastic and up for the challenge.
Throughout the day, they played five games, coming home with just one win, but showed great resilience when coming up against some very talented teams from Caulfield Grammar, Lavalla Catholic College and Ruyton Girls’ School.
Thank you to our senior girls — Miller Davies, Aleisha Moon, Jinaya Nurse, Olive Morton, Charlize Weeks, Amelia d’Angri, Chloe Pollock, Skyler Keet, and Grace McMillian — for representing our school at such a busy time of the year.
A huge thank you also to Miss Jacqui James for preparing the team, to Ms Gemma Joyce for supporting the team, and to Renea Harris, who was our umpire on the day.
Mackenzie Parsons - NSW Lawn Bowls
Mackenzie Parsons (Year 11) had an outstanding week representing New South Wales at the recent national competition, where NSW finished 2nd overall, narrowly missing out on the top spot by just 3 points to Victoria.
Throughout the week, Mackenzie competed in the Triples and Fours events. Both teams performed strongly, progressing through to the bronze medal matches in their respective disciplines. In two tightly contested matches, Mackenzie and her teammates secured bronze medals in both events.
The margins were incredibly close—NSW narrowly missed the gold medal matches by just 2 shots in the Triples and 6 shots in the Fours.
Mackenzie’s efforts across the week saw her return home with a silver medal in the overall team result, along with two bronze medals from her individual disciplines—an impressive haul and a testament to her skill and consistency at this level.
