Year 7 Italian Classes Enjoy a Taste of Tradition

As part of their Italian language and culture studies, our Year 7 students recently had the opportunity to experience one of Italy’s most beloved festive treats – il panettone.

This traditional sweet bread, originally from Milan, is enjoyed across Italy during Christmas and New Year celebrations. Students sampled slices of the light, fluffy bread, filled with dried fruits and citrus, while learning about its origins and cultural significance. Many were surprised by the unique flavour and texture! The tasting provided a delicious way to connect language learning with cultural appreciation, reminding students that food is a vital ingredient in understanding a country’s traditions.

Year 7 B+ Day – ‘Teens and Screens’ and ‘Elio’ – the movie!

On Wednesday the 6th of August, all of year 7 participated in the ‘Teens and Screens’ program with Mrs Liz and Mrs Emily. The program was about managing your screen time wisely. We split into groups and figured out the average of our screen time. Some groups had minimal hours, and some had a lot. We also learnt about how screens can affect your sleep and your mood.

The ‘Teens and Screens’ day was a good way to learn about how phones affect young people like us. After ‘Teens and Screens’, all of Year 7 went to the movies to watch ‘Elio’. It was about a boy who felt like he didn’t belong on earth. He had always wanted to be abducted by aliens and go somewhere where he might fit in. One day aliens finally found him and took him to the communiverse. We learnt about belonging, fitting in and being true to ourselves. Overall, our Year 7 B+ Day was a great day that everyone loved!

Creative Cartographers: 7.4 Brings Geography to Life

On 15 August, Class 7.4 worked in groups to create contour maps of their own islands as part of their Geography studies. Students collaborated to demonstrate their understanding of elevation, contours, scale, landmarks, and legends, producing informative and colourful maps.

The classroom was filled with creative energy (and a little bit of organised chaos!), and some highly imaginative designs emerged. Well done to all the students of 7.4 for their teamwork, quick thinking and fantastic results!

Year 8

Year 8 B+ Day

On 13 August, the Year 8 cohort attended the Year 8 B+ Day at the Moama Pavilion for an exciting and engaging program. The day began with Mrs Liz and Mrs Emily presenting a 'Teens for Screens' slideshow, which explored important topics such as screen usage, online bullying and healthy sleep schedules. Following the presentation, students boarded the buses for the next part of the day, a trip to the movies.

Upon arrival at the Echuca Paramount, the cinema generously provided each student with a small drink of their choice and a serving of popcorn. The chosen film was visually impressive, combining humour, heartfelt emotion, imaginative science fiction and powerful themes of identity, belonging and courage. Its vibrant animation, clever dialogue and engaging characters, paired with stunning visuals and uplifting messages, left a lasting impression on all.

Overall, B+ Day was a great success and an enjoyable way to spend the day together as a year level.

Eco-Friendly Project – Wool, String and Yarn Donations Needed

My name is Lyla Harris, and together with my Year 8 elective class partner, Lila Courts, we are working on an eco-friendly project. We have decided to wrap yarn around the trees near the sports shed to bring colour and life to the area.

We are requesting the school community’s support by donating any old or unused wool, string, or yarn that we can repurpose for this project. Clearly labelled drop boxes will be available in both the Primary and Secondary Offices, and we will be collecting donations for the next three weeks.

Thank you in advance for helping us brighten up the school grounds in an eco-friendly way.

Year 9

Year 9 Alpine Camp – A Week of Growth, Challenge, and Connection

From Monday 4th August to Thursday 7th August, our Year 9 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure at the Alpine Camp, held at Charnwood near Lima East.  The program included two spectacular day trips to Mt Buller, where many students embraced the challenge of learning a brand-new skill – either skiing or snowboarding – in the true spirit of “have a go”.

The camp’s focus on fostering teamwork, resilience and personal growth shone through in every activity. Whether navigating the alpine slopes, supporting each other on the snow, or assisting with the set-up and pack-up of meals, equipment and camp activities, students demonstrated perseverance, enthusiasm and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the week was witnessing the way students encouraged and celebrated each other’s progress. Their behaviour, manners and engagement were exemplary, reflecting the maturity and respect that we are so proud to see in our Year 9 cohort.

A special thank you goes to the dedicated staff who attended the camp, leading by example through their own teamwork, encouragement and willingness to get involved in every aspect of the experience. Their guidance and enthusiasm were instrumental in making the camp such a success.

The friendships strengthened and connections made during this camp will undoubtedly support students in their future schooling and beyond. We commend all participants for their positive attitudes and congratulate them on an outstanding week of learning, growth, and achievement.

Agriculture and Primary VET Industries

Students have relished the opportunity to work with sheep borrowed from Womboota Pastoral since early last term.  We took delivery of six in-lamb ewes and were delighted to have seven healthy lambs born here at our main campus.  Year 9 Agriculture students compared the growth of single birth lambs with twin lambs.  Year 12 Agriculture students observed how the relative proportions of body parts change as lambs grow.  Year 11 Primary Industry students learned about lamb marking when Malcolm Starritt visited a lesson.  They also showed the lambs to visitors from Echuca Specialist School.

Meanwhile, Year 11 Agriculture students collected faecal samples from the sheep before and after drenching.  Samples were processed and then analysed under the microscope to determine faecal worm egg counts, thereby assessing the effectiveness of the drench.  Other activities undertaken included Year 10s and 11s body condition scoring, mouthing the sheep to determine their age, and using the FMACHA colour chart to assess eyelid and gum colour as an indication of worm infestation.  Borrowing the sheep has allowed us to feed and monitor their health, and learn more about Integrated Pest Management.  A very, very big thank you to Malcolm Starritt for giving up his valuable time to deliver and collect the sheep, provide feed and share his vast knowledge.

Student Leaders Help Shape Campaspe Youth Festival

Preparations are well underway for the upcoming Shire of Campaspe Youth Festival!

A dedicated group of Year 7 and 8 students, eager to grow their leadership skills, have volunteered to assist with the planning and preparation of this exciting event. They have been collaborating with students from other local schools—including Rochester Secondary College, Echuca College, Kyabram P–12, and St Joseph's College—to help bring the festival to life.

Keisha Hall (Year 8), Helen Castro (Year 8), Ruby Simson (Year 8), Kate Anderson (Year 7) and Summer Scambler (Year 7) represented Moama Anglican Grammar at a recent planning meeting held at Echuca College, where they helped finalise the event's music program.

Moama Anglican Grammar will host the final planning meeting on 29 August, before the festival officially launches on Friday 5 September.

A huge thank you to these students for proudly representing MAGS and contributing to such a fantastic community event!

Outstanding achievement for George Griffiths!

George Griffiths (Year 10) powered through the 13.35km TT in 18:26.5 (+12.4), securing first place ahead of the second placegetter – an incredible ride that proves all his hard work and training have paid off.

We’re thrilled to share that George has been selected for the AusCycling U17 Road Development Academy Team for the Yunca Junior Tour in New Zealand this September!

Joining 21 other talented young cyclists from across Australia, George will gain valuable international racing experience, learn from top coaches and develop alongside the nation’s best up-and-coming riders.

Congratulations, George – this is a well-deserved reward for your dedication and determination both on and off the bike!
