Primary School

It was great to welcome many of our families to the Parent Teacher Interviews last week. These interviews provide a formal opportunity for teachers, parents and carers to discuss student achievement and learning behaviour, share progress and establish future goals in partnership. With a lens on continuous improvement, we welcome any feedback parents may have to enhance this experience. Please email your suggestions to the Primary School Office via email psreception@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au.
Scholastic Book Fair
We are very appreciative of the support demonstrated by our community when visiting the Scholastic Book Fair this week. Your total purchases of $5698.00 enabled the school to select a range of products to add to our library collection and the classroom libraries in Years 2 and 4. Due to the popularity of many items, additional products needed to be ordered, and these will be handed to the students as soon as they are delivered to the school. As always, your support is greatly appreciated.
Year 5 Camp to Ballarat
The Year 5 students have once again embarked on their annual camp to Sovereign Hill. Their first day started with morning tea at Lake Weroona in Bendigo followed by lunch in Ballarat. Students then attended four informative sessions at the Eureka Centre where they learnt about the events leading up to the Eureka Stockade. The original Eureka Flag was an impressive sight, as it is extremely large in real life! After this, students headed to their accommodation at Sovereign Hill. The students settled into their rooms and headed to dinner in preparation for the Pantomime Show. This lively and humorous theatre performance entertained students while sharing the history of how theatre works. They were captivated by the amazing skills of Wizard Jacobs, whose impressive magic tricks added excitement and wonder to the evening.
On days 2 and 3, the students were involved in Costume School, where they dressed up and experienced what life was like for students living on the diggings in the 1850’s. A variety of ‘old time’ games such as skipping, horseshoe throwing and the cup and ball, were on offer to play with at recess and lunch. Learning how to write with a pen and ink was a tricky task for some; however, students persisted much to the pleasure of ‘Ma’am’, their schoolteacher. Students tried their luck panning for gold, swirling water and gravel in the hope of spotting a glimmer. The highlight came when some were lucky enough to cradle a gleaming gold bar in their hands, a dazzling treasure worth over $500,000.
A tour of the diggings demonstrated how tough life would have been on the goldfields with many people living in canvas tents and never actually striking it rich. Students had an impressive and immersive experience at Sovereign Hill which is a great lead into our history unit in Year 5 for this term.
Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes 2025
In our chapel on Friday 25 July, we had a visit from Mrs Janene Davenport who is our representative of Operation Christmas Child. She explained to the Primary students how to prepare a shoe box as a Christmas gift for children living in vulnerable situations in another country. This year each Primary classroom will be involved in packing a box. Students will be invited to bring something along that meets the requirements to fill a gift box and this will be communicated later in the term. Classes will then track their own box to see which country benefits from their compassion and generosity.
In addition, families may wish to prepare their own box, and they are most welcome to do so! Please contact the Primary office for an official Operation Christmas Child box. Follow the link to explore how to pack a shoe box:

Over the last two years, our family shoeboxes have travelled to the Philippines and Solomon Islands. We are starting early this year and will spend the term collecting to ship them off to new destinations at the end of Term 3. We thank you in advance for your support.
Spotlight on Learning – Writing in Kindergarten
This term, our Kindergarten students have made wonderful progress in their writing journey! Their confidence is blossoming as they eagerly experiment with adding more detail and sharing their ideas in a clear order. Using our 5 Star Writing Checklist, the Kinders are learning to craft stronger sentences and are actively supporting each other through peer feedback by offering constructive encouragement that helps everyone improve. We have also been focusing on important writing skills like forming letters with the correct starting points and writing neatly on the lines.
We are so proud to celebrate the progress they have made so far and look forward to watching their creativity and skills continue to grow.
Primary Assembly
On Friday 8 August, the Primary School community connected at the Primary Assembly. I would like to congratulate Martin House Captains Ryan Maxwell and Georgia McIntosh for confidently running the Assembly. We enjoyed beautiful performances from Rosie Grant on piano and two beautiful songs from the Jnr Singers. This talented group of young performers competed at the Bendigo Eisteddfod recently, where they wowed the audience with their energy, teamwork, and incredible voices, receiving a silver standard.
A selected group of Year 6 students shared the Get Happier Projects they have been working on in class. The purpose of these projects is to share kindness in our community and students learned about the Disco for Wellbeing, Good Day/Bad Day Boxes, and the MAGs got Talent event. Students enjoyed watching the video ‘MAGs Rocks the American’, a short compilation of the performances from the rock bands at the American on Sunday 3 August.
The Year 2 students transported us to Space by sharing some of their work with us about ‘Bear in Space’, including many interesting facts and the Year 1 students kept us engaged with their video about their information reports about Australian animals. We look forward to our next Assembly on Friday 5 September when the Year 5 students will perform for us. Congratulations to the students below who received a Core Value Award for consistently displaying one or more of the School’s Core Values and Motto. Keep up the great work!

Stage 1 Assembly
On Tuesday 13 August, 1B hosted the Stage 1 Assembly with confidence and enthusiasm. The event was capably led by the hosts, Patrick and Mila, who welcomed everyone and guided the audience smoothly through the program. The Assembly was filled with engaging presentations and moments that showcased the students’ learning and creativity.
1A shared their persuasive writing pieces, passionately explaining why their chosen colour was the best. Their confidence in presenting was evident, and it was clear they had worked hard on developing their arguments. The Assembly also featured a lively sing-along to the ‘Bossy E Rap’, which had everyone joining in with smiles and energy.
Congratulations to the students below who received their Stage 1 Super Star Award at the Assembly.

Book Week
It is that exciting time of year, where we celebrate Book Week! The theme for this year’s Book Week is ‘Book an Adventure’ and is scheduled from Monday, 18 August, until Friday, 22 August. Book Week provides a great opportunity to celebrate Australian literature. As part of the celebrations, students will be able to join in the many activities which will be on offer throughout the week.
Parents and Carers are invited to attend our annual Book Character Parade on Wednesday 20 August at 9am on the Primary tennis courts. On this day, students are encouraged to attend school dressed as their favourite book character. Costumes are to be in line with our school policy regarding appropriate dress at school.
