Bringing House Spirit to Life

Recently, some busy work has been happening around the front of Rothwell’s main area. You may see some students busy painting on the walls outside the Rothwell bathroom. Don’t worry, it’s not vandalism! Rather, a mural is in the works.

This mural is part of a bigger project in SCHS taking course over a few years that will seek to improve all the house spaces. The addition of these murals will add a splash of creativity and colour to our school walls while showcasing each house’s spirit and core values.

For this mural project, our SCHS has invited Melbourne-based artist Carla McRae to work with a small group of students to create a mural design and install it in the house areas. Rothwell was chosen as the pilot for this project, and a team was assembled involving some of the many artistic minds in Rothwell.

After a day of collaborative brainstorming with the students, Carla came back with an amazing mural design reflecting Rothwell’s warmth and shared strength. Carla and the Rothwell mural team consisting of house captains Yashi and Aryan, arts captain Rhian, and resident Rothwell artists Samantha, Chengtao, Yutong, and Emilia have been hard at work painting and bringing this mural to life.

This project is so exciting to see unfold, bringing brightness into our everyday school spaces.

So look out Apollo, Blackwood and Kororoit, you may be next in line to install your house murals with Carla!
