SCHS Bullet and Blitz Championships

Hey Suzanne Cory!
Term 2 has been a great one for the Chess Program, with our SCHS Bullet and Blitz Championships bringing together players from across the school. These school-only tournaments are designed to be fun, improve your skills, and introduce new players to tournament chess.
The Bullet Championships were held over two days in Week 1. With only one minute each and a 2 second delay, games were decided by quick thinking and even quicker reflexes. It was brilliant to see over 30 people sign up, creating plenty of intense moments and dramatic finishes. In the end, Gian Abriam claimed the title of SCHS Bullet Champion with a perfect score, earning himself a trophy and a $10 canteen voucher.
This was followed by the Blitz Championships in Week 5, held over three days. With only the top 20 sign-ups accepted, competition was fierce straight from Round 1. After six rounds of five minutes each, Daniel Vu emerged as the SCHS Blitz Champion with a perfect score, also taking home a trophy and a $10 canteen voucher.
It has been honestly amazing to see so many students getting involved in our internal events this year. I’d like to congratulate both champions, and deeply thank everyone who took part. A special thanks to our arbiters and Mr Toussaint who made these events possible.
However, the action isn't over yet! Keep an eye out for the SCHS Rapid Championships coming next term, where players will have a little more time to think and one more chance to compete for school glory.
Simran Singh (R6), President of the Chess Program
