Year 6 - Interschool Sports & Dance Curriculum

On the 8th of May, 2026, the Highvale Year 6s and selected Year 5s went to Glen Waverley South to play the first round of Winter interschool sports. There were four sports: netball, soccer, rounders and softball. Unfortunately, none of the teams secured a win, but everyone played to their best ability. The highlight of the day for the A team netball squad was the number of intercepts we were able to achieve in just one quarter. Most of these were made by Lily, Zara, Nikki and Kaitlyn. None of this would have been possible without our two captains, Maya and Zara.

On the 22nd of May 2026, all Highvale students and selected Year 5s played another round of interschool sport. This time, Camelot Rise came to Highvale for the second round. Fortunately, two teams successfully won. One of these sports were softball, with a score of 6–12, and the other was rounders, winning 2–3. Sundy from 6D, who plays rounders, said, “Lin in 6S caught two really high balls that went over her head!” She also said that she did extremely well when batting as she smashed the ball over someone’s head.

As part of our Dance Curriculum, on the 22nd of May 2026, Highvale students performed their dance show, which they had been practicing for the past two weeks. We invited Omar back for the second year in a row to teach us some slick moves, which we showcased to our supporters and audience who attended on the day. All year levels were split into two groups to avoid overcrowding. The Preps, Year 2s, 4s and 6s performed from 1:30–2:30 pm, while Years 1, 3 and 5 performed from 2:30–3:30 pm.
