Year 1 & 2 Robotics Incursion
On Friday 15th May, our Grade 1 and 2 students took part in an exciting robotics incursion that brought our Digital Technologies learning to life. Students explored how robots follow instructions, how algorithms work, and why clear, step‑by‑step programming is so important.
To begin, students pretended to be robots and followed a “dance program” created by their classmates. This hands-on activity helped them understand that programming needs to be very specific, with each movement given in the correct order. If the instructions weren’t clear, the “robots” didn’t move the right way — a perfect introduction to real coding!
Students then had time for open‑ended exploration with the Program‑A‑Bot robots. Before receiving any instructions, they experimented, tested ideas and shared what they discovered. This encouraged curiosity, problem‑solving and teamwork.
Next, the whole class worked with the presenter to create an algorithm to move Program‑A‑Bot through a maze. Using instruction cards, students sequenced steps such as forward, turn and stop, learning how algorithms guide a robot’s actions.
It was a fantastic day of learning, creativity and digital thinking. Our students showed great enthusiasm and confidence as young programmers, and we are proud of the skills they are developing.

Yuri 2L - I liked how we had a map and made sure mousy bot could reach the treasure.
Minghao 2L - I liked making mousy bot move left right forward and backwards.
Ashwin 2M -I loved playing with the robots and giving it directions.
Winston 2M - I loved challenging myself using the maps to get to the treasure chest with the robots.
