Attendance
At Highvale Primary School we firmly believe that attending school every day plays a crucial role in shaping a child's educational journey. Regular attendance allows students to fully engage in classroom activities, discussions, and hands-on learning experiences. It provides them with the opportunity to grasp new concepts, ask questions and collaborate with their peers. Consistent attendance helps build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills, enabling children to excel academically. This term, we will be reinforcing the importance of attending school every day.

Top 100 Government Primary Schools
I am incredibly proud to share with our school community that Highvale Primary School has recently been recognised as one of the TOP 10 primary schools in the state according to the Herald Sun. This outstanding achievement reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment of our students, staff and families, who work together each day to create a positive and high-performing learning environment. This recognition is a testament to the strong partnerships within our community, the high expectations we hold for all learners and our collective focus on continuous improvement and excellence in education. While we are incredibly proud of this achievement, we also acknowledge that there is always more work to do as we continue striving for excellence and ongoing improvement in all areas of school life. We remain committed to providing the very best opportunities and outcomes for every student and thank our entire community for their ongoing support and contribution to this shared success.
Reports
We will be providing student achievement reports for Semester One this year as usual.
The reports will be available on Compass on Friday 19th June. The reports will continue to provide important details about student learning attainment, but full descriptive comments will not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union. We will of course be pleased to discuss with you your child’s progress at the Student Led Conferences scheduled for Tuesday 23rd June. You can contact your child’s teacher via email at any time to arrange a meeting prior to the conferences if you wish.
Temporary closure of Glen Waverley Library
Glen Waverley Library will temporarily close from Monday 8th June 2026 to make way for construction of Council’s $110 million Glen Waverley Civic Precinct Project – which will start in the second half of the year. The new facility is expected to be completed in 2028 and will deliver a brand-new library, designed with modern and flexible shared spaces to support learning, creativity, and community connection. Students who utilise Glen Waverley Library to study will need to plan alternate study spaces during the temporary closure. Council continues to support students with study spaces available at:
· Mount Waverley Library - dedicated bookable study spaces located just two train stops (five-minutes) from Glen Waverley station.
· Monash Youth Services - a limited, supervised afterschool safe space for 12–18-year-olds. Online registration is essential as days and spaces are limited.
Library items should be returned before 8 June 2026, or to another library branch, as the afterhours return chute will not be accessible pending opening of temporary library sites. Temporary library sites will offer smaller collections, with limited express services and spaces, until the completion of our new Glen Waverly Library. We understand these changed conditions will cause disruption, and we are committed to keeping our schools and families updated as works progress. You can learn more at www.monlib.vic.gov.au/library

School Production
Rehearsals for our school production 'Porridge!' are well underway. When a crime wave hits Happy Valley, there's a caseload of mysteries to be solved! It's up to Private Detective Jack Spratt to investigate this community of familiar fairytale and nursery rhyme characters to crack the case! Our fabulous cast have been staying after school on Tuesdays to work on the different scenes. Already we have been so impressed by their talents! Our school community is in for a great night of laughter - we have many future comedians in our school. In Performing Arts classes, each year level will begin learning their song and choreography so they are ready to take the stage in Term 3. Don't forget that we are on the lookout for our official production logo! If you'd like to have a go at designing the 'Porridge!' logo, please see the Compass post from Mrs Sinclair for further details. The winner's logo will be printed on t-shirts and used in the official show program! We look forward to sharing more updates as rehearsals progress!
2026 Attitudes to School Survey

The survey will ask your child about their thoughts and feelings about their school, their learning, relationships with other students, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general. At HPS, our Year Four, Five and Six students will complete the survey from Wednesday 3rd June – Tuesday 9th June.
