Indigenous Cooking

Our students recently participated in a wonderful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cooking incursion, where they explored the rich flavours and cultural significance of Indigenous Australian ingredients.

During the session, students had the opportunity to create a delicious afternoon tea using native ingredients and traditional flavour combinations. They made wattleseed scones served with strawberry gum cream, alongside a choice of rosella jam or lilly pilly jam.

The incursion encouraged students to broaden their understanding of Indigenous food practices while developing practical cooking skills and an appreciation for Australia’s unique native ingredients. It was fantastic to see students enthusiastically experimenting with new flavours and learning about the stories and traditions connected to Indigenous cuisine.

We have attached the recipe below if you would like to try making these delicious scones at home!
